About Me

Cricket freak, fanatic and crazy are some of the words that have been used to describe me by my friends all throughout my life. A true lover of the beautiful game, i am a 21 year old Bachelor of Engineering(Civil). In this cricket loving nation, it may not be a tough job finding a cricket fanatic, but finding one with a good cricketing brain is not that easy. I have followed cricket since my childhood days and have always tried to view it from an analyst's view point. May be that is why i didn't excel in playing it that well, but i am well versed with all the details and the knowledge good enough to give a cricket pundit a run for his money. My love for this game was always known to me and apart from following this sport, i have learned a lot from it as well. The great lessons of team work and sportsmanship along with respect for others have been culminated in me through the experiences with cricket. Losing makes no one feel good, and i am no exception; but rather than just accepting it and feeling bad, i always try and analyze the reasons for the loss. That is what i consider as the most important facet because its natural to lose one time or the other, but a learner would always love to avoid the mistakes, not only his but the opponent's as well. I just love being involved with Cricket and can always be spotted discussing it with even the most uninterested people at the most unimaginable places and situations! Above all, I enjoy feeding on the statistics and graphs; and analysis that follow a cricket match are my staple diet. I have always had my own opinions on the way things should be carried out and how a team should approach a game, and without being too haughty or arrogant, i would really like to confess that more often than not, my line of thinking has coincided with some of the most famous experts of the game. I love discussing anything and everything about this game, it makes me feel closer to it and gives utmost satisfaction. That is why i would love to be associated with the team i have so fondly followed since the inception of IPL and would really like to give my humble contribution in whatever way possible and needed, so as to present an even tougher challenge to the opposition from the Royal Challengers.

I am the most fanatic RCB fan because...

My loyalties were absolutely clear even before the team names were decided. I was always going to support the team of which Rahul Dravid was a part, and it only added to my delight that he was chosen as the captain of the RCB team, which boasted of Anil Kumble and Ross Taylor, two of my other favorite players. i have always held Dravid as the most dependable and consistent batsman in the Indian line-up, but apart from the facts and figures, its his nature that has made me his fan. Arguably, the best match winner for India alongside Anil, he has never sought limelight and has been the perfect team man. Opener, wicket-keeper, middle-order batsman, Captain; he has taken up any challenge thrown at him with the same will power. I have idolized him and it was natural that i would be supporting this Royal team. Although i belong to Punjab, which itself has its own IPL team, i have supported the RCB as religiously as it can be. This sometimes even attracted criticism from my mates but all i wanted is to cheer this team of unsung heroes. It gives me a sense of belonging and satisfaction to cheer and support this team. I don't need a reason for this, it is but natural. I dare say that i am the team's biggest fan, and it lies above any regional preferences. This opportunity is like a dream come true for me. It gives me a chance to see my childhood heroes face-to-face and experience some never before moments with my team. I dare say that there aren't many who would leave their home team and support some other team, but I shall always be a true RCB fan regardless of any event. I have my favorite team's jersey with me which i always wore during each match of the IPL season to proudly show off my support. I love this team for everything that it is and i pledge my full loyalty towards making my part of the contribution towards the success of the team at the highest level. I would leave no stone unturned in making this event a successful one for the RCB from my side and i believe that i can keep a track of the fan following as well as reach out to new ones by familiarizing with their pulse. This, combined with my knowledge of the game and my never diminishing support towards the RCB makes me the most fanatic fan. Given a chance, i would surely prove my worth as the best man for the job. My SLOGAN FOR THE RCB TEAM - "INDIAN BY BIRTH, RCBian BY CHOICE!"

Strategy Map for RCB - Airtel Champions League

My preferred line up :

Jacques Kallis, Manish Pandey, Jesse Ryder, Rahul Dravid, Ross Taylor, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa, Roelof VD Merwe, Praveen Kumar, Balachandra Akhil, Vinay Kumar, Anil Kumble(Captain)

why do I prefer this line up :

This line up has been created keeping in mind the fact that the tournament will be played in the sub-continent. Though i sincerely believe Mark Boucher is a great keeper, the Indian pitches require an additional big-hitter, who can provide some momentum at the end of the innings, and an extra all-rounder because bowlers can go for a lot of runs on these pitches. Considering all these and the fact that only 4 overseas players are allowed, i would suggest playing Jesse Ryder as well. There wouldn't be any swing expected, so Dale Steyn would not be as effective here. Also, playing Jesse provides an extra bowling option, a must at sub-continent pitches, as Kallis may go for some runs here. Uthappa did a fair job keeping wickets at South Africa and though he wasn't great with the bat, he would provide a good finisher's option at the lower order and won't be needed at the top as we would have good hard hitting batsmen in Ryder, Kallis and Pandey. Also, he has shown some signs of form now. Dravid would provide stability if required in case of early fall of wickets and Kohli, Taylor and van der Merwe could make up for a late burst. Anil and van der Merwe would play an important role in the spin department and their performance would be decisive according to me. Two from Praveen Kumar, Balachandra Akhil and Vinay Kumar could be picked on the basis of form and effectiveness on these pitches. I sincerely believe Jesse should be given a go here instead of Boucher and Uthappa be played as a wicket keeper-batsman. It also reduces the dependence on only a few bowlers, which i think is crucial for success in T20s and especially in India. All in all, this team provides seven bowling options and a deep batting line up, along with good fielders in Kohli, Ryder and Taylor, making for a complete T20 squad.

My opening match strategy:

The opening match against Cape Cobras requires careful planning and they won't be an easy opposition. As it always is, the first game of the tournament is a crucial one. I believe our bowling is our stronger point, but because of this being an opener, i would like to put up runs on the board and make chasing difficult. In case we lose the toss and field first, i would suggest Anil should bowl sooner rather than later, as the opposition relies quite heavily on their opening pair of Gibbs and Smith, and Anil with his variations stands a good chance against them, and as he showed, he can be very successful in that role. Even if it means going for a few runs, getting those openers early would peg the Cobras back and then the quickies can contain the later half of the line up. As far as our batting is concerned, the players in the selected line up justify their positions and i think it should remain stable throughout, unless there is some need to surprise a few. We could consider sending van der Merwe early if there is a flying start and in case of quick wickets, Dravid could come in and build the innings. The key is to save a few wickets for the final burst at the end of the innings. We need a good consistent team performance and i believe this line up with a good number of all-rounders possesses all the necessary skills to execute this strategy. Also, Praveen should be bowled out in the middle overs as he goes for some runs at the depth. We need tight overs at the end and Akhil or Vinay should be entrusted to bowl those yorkers in the final overs; with Ryder, Kallis (and also Kohli) making up those middle overs. This strategy has been planned keeping in mind the spinning wickets in India, our strengths and also the opposition's vulnerability against quality spin.

My best T20 match:

Venue: New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg Date: 23 May 2009

Although i would have loved to name the final of the IPL-2 as my favorite one(along with many other RCB fans, i believe), it didn't turn out to be that way. But boy, was it some performance from the Challengers in the Semi-final! 147 was a good target considering it was a knockout game, and Manish came up with another strong performance to propel the Innings at the start. Though i love the match for the innings Dravid played. He negated Murali for a long time and made sure the rest of the line up wasn't exposed to him as he was bowling very well. His 44 of 39 deliveries was made up of classy boundaries and controlled aggression. Had Dravid not shown restraint along with aggression, the chase could have gone out of control. He showed just how important it is to be a thinking batsman in all forms of the game. Virat and Taylor provided a perfect finish to the match. The decisive, and the most symbolic blow came from Kohli, when he stepped out to Murali, and hit him straight down the ground for a big six. Bangalore's fifth win in a row was all but sealed and i, along with many RCB fans i am sure, was dancing with joy and hope. I love this game for Dravid's innings, Kumble's captaincy and Challengers' attitude till the final ball.

Your profile says it all Sahil, and i am happy you got a chance to show your skills for the team you would have actually loved to. I remember you saying if you could ever associate with this team, you would consider yourself the luckiest person on this planet. Remember what my response was; well even i wasn't serious when i had said you definitely will get someday. I don't think there would be much doubt left in these very capable judges' minds about your writing skills, your understanding of the game and your true passion. One thing i can assure of this guy,he's very capable of this job and will give his heart and soul. He's been dreaming for such a role since the IPL,and now when he has got an opportunity,i pray to god he does get recognized by the judges.I am sure he'll be jumping like a mad if and when he gets selected. This is THE MOMENT for him.All the best RCB fanatic....!!

I remember he was once following live scores of an India-Aus Test Match on his phone during a Math lecture. Rahul was batting on probably 91, and he got out. Oh boy, he banged the desk so hard, everyone just stood silent wondering what had happened. He yelled 'why does this happen to him, he's missed another century, damn!'. Everyone just burst out laughing. Though he was sent out of the class, i knew he was more upset at that missed century rather than his send-off. Such is the passion of this freak, i can tell you. He's a good student though, but his love for the game (and particularly Rahul and Anil) is emphatic. He's a fanatic in every sense of the word. Ask him what his favorite cricket moment is, and he remembers how lucky he was to have been present on the day of Anil Kumble's retirement, as it wasn't a planned one. He was there, wondering why this man shouldn't carry on. He had to be literally dragged from there by his friends, he just didn't want to leave! Well, he'll surely offer a lot with his ability to understand situations alongwith his love for his favorite cricketers.

Since childhood, his passion for Cricket and the quest for info related to it has been huge. He's listened to Cricket Commentators and hosts more seriously than he's listened to his Professors at college. He's rightly mentioned about what all he brings with him: oodles of passion, sheer understanding and most importantly, the true loyalty that one can expect from a fan. It doesn't get any bigger and better than this. I am sure when it comes to the Top RCB fans, he's right there at the pinnacle. He surely can attract a huge fan base with his true love for the team and utmost dedication to work tirelessly for this wonderful team. He only needs an opportunity to show his passion and skills, and am sure when he gets one, he'll make it count.

Finally, a platform for this true lover ofthe game to showcase hi talent and loyalty. I know how madly he's been supporting the Team RCB. The only guy at his college to have the team t-shirt and probably the only one from his hometown. He simply worships Anil and Rahul(yeah, i mean it literally). I am sorry to others, but i don't think there's ever been a bigger fan of theirs. His knowledge about the game and his ability to analyse different situations and teams is praiseworthy. He's surprised us many a times by his pin-point accuracy about the predictions related to the game. No wonder,it shows in the results of so many Fantasy Cricket games that he's played and got Top 10 positions, like the ESPNSTAR's Super Selector and so many others. He just loves making strategies and discussing them all the time. He's also the Moderator of Sports Bookie App at Facebook and the Moderator of the Daily Cricket Trivia at c2w.com. Though the decision lies with the judges only, he's one perfect guy for this job of Chief Blogger due to the presence of varied skills of Understanding of the game, his analytical ability to form team combos(and believe me, good ones), appropriate usage of the language, his confidence, his ability to use the internet and blogosphere wisely, and above all-his unprecedented love for this team. All these certainly put him a notch above the rest. I have seen some applications of some 'self proclaimed' people who don't even know that Kevin Pietersen isn't playing this series. He's one guy who knows everything about his favorite team though, and can be expected to give his heart and soul for the Team's cause. Wish you all the best! I certainly feel your dream of meeting your idols will come true.
