A tribute to the Wall
Former RCB player Rahul Dravid plays his last ODI today at Cardiff against England. This will be his 344th and final match. Till date, he has scored a total of 10820 runs in 343 matches at an average of 39.06 with the highest score of 153.
Memories revisited:
Rahul Dravid - The Iconic player, Captain for team India, the 3rd Indian to score 10000+ runs, the player to have taken the highest number of catches, the Wall, Mr. Dependable, and the list continues!
The classy batsman, and the occasional wicket-keeper has forced entire nation to brag about his languid batting style and elegant personality!
Disha Shetty, the biggest female fan of RD, sends her anecdotes:
For someone who was termed as a plodder in the limited-overs game, he worked excessively hard so as to be able to up the winning quotient.
The first one to hit the gym and work on his shoulder and back muscles with trainer Basu's help, he never missed even the optional nets and always the last one to wind up practice.
I distinctly remember this Sept 19, 2010 match against the Mumbai Indians, where RCB lost by mere 2 runs. Dravid batted for entire 20 overs coming in as the opener and made some 70 odd runs in 55 deliveries... He adapted himself to the situation knowing they had a tough chase. The way he consoled a teary eyed Virat is still etched in my memories.
To sum it up, as coach Ray Jennings said, “Dravid is dedication and perseverance personified”.
By and large, Rahul Dravid’s contribution to the game is splendid. He has been a role model for every aspiring cricketer. He has been the sexiest player for all the female fans! All his teammates praise his dedication and efforts!
Some of his international records include:
1. Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2000
2. ICC Test Player of the Year 2004
3. ICC Player of the Year 2004
