Arun Karthick – Tamil Nadu’s latest revelation
In the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament, Karthick has been a consistent force in the TNCA President’s XI batting line-up. A solid 82 in partnership with opener Abhinav Mukund laid the much needed foundation for his team against Kerala in Round 2. Their 122-run 1st wicket stand gave the innings impetus, eventually resulting in an important victory for the President’s XI as they qualified for the quarterfinals.
Next up, Karthick smashed a spectacular hundred (162 off 245 balls, 15 fours, 1 six) in their quarterfinal encounter, mauling the Hyderabad bowlers all over. Once again, he was responsible for setting up a solid base for his side. Another crucial win for the President’s XI followed, taking them to the semi-final stage of the tournament.
Karthick first hogged the limelight on his first-class debut with an impressive 149 against Karnataka back in 2008/09. However, his domestic career blossomed with the Badureliya Sports Club in Sri Lanka, where he ended up as the highest run-getter for one season. He also went on to have a fruitful Ranji outing with Tamil Nadu the following year, maintaining a 50-plus average, collecting 573 runs. Karthick is famously remembered for his last-ball six against South Australia that took Royal Challengers Bangalore to the 2011 Champions League semi-finals.
A patient batsman who enjoys sticking to the crease for longer periods, Karthick is currently trying to fit into the opener’s mould by featuring regularly in Tamil Nadu’s top order.
He, along with the fab members of the Fan Advisory Board, plot new schemes to engage with fans and trouble shoot their problems.
