Dear fans,

A lot of negative air seems to be coming this way. We've heard you on some, and here are some responses. In addition, I'd like to open up a forum for healthy discussion here.

there's no cricket in the community management blog this is by intention. for cricketing info, pls click on NEWS and browse through the FAN CLUB. This blog is where you'll find updates on Fan Activities

what has been done since Fan Summit?? New website design is coming up using some of Sachin's pointers. New loyalty program is possible following a tier system based on Vinayak's proposal. Meetups are being organized by City Ambassadors across the country. Social Media - I believe the team working on this had exams and thus were taking things slowly.

too many contests! too little cricket!! We've heard you, post our current line up of campaigns, we'll be focusing heavily on the sport - discussion, trivia, possibly 'play cricket' meetups

stop the vote-for-me-spam-contests Okay. You'll notice a slight change in the current campaign, the Royal Send Off, that is taking place. We're trying to steer away from "VOTE FOR ME" contests and turn them into "this community actively chooses..." type of selection. Won't be easy the first time, but do work with us.

there's too many people in Bangalore that haven't heard of this website Well, we can't do vote-for-me contests anymore... that & the Member Get Member program were terrific for spreading word about the site. But quite some fans disliked both contests (despite freebies) since it resulted in "NOT-PASSIONATE" fans. so if you find there' not many people in Bangalore who've heard of this Fan Club, tell them. If each of us 90K fans tells one person, we've doubled the fan club.

RCB isn't doing enough for us We're trying to understand this sentiment. Perhaps we spend too much time thinking "oh we're doing more than other clubs" and we missed on what we weren't doing. Okay, we'll do more. But we need YOUR support. YOU do more with us. If we want to achieve the size of a MAN U FAN CLUB, the fans need to be just as active! Apart from Sponsorships which take time to process, do let us know what RCB can do, and what you're willing to do to take the Fan Club to the next level.

OTHER FEEDBACK??
Please share your grievances in a CONSTRUCTIVE manner so we know where to improve

@ SivaAN : I completely agree to your suggestion on the CMs for different cities as well as the ‘Bug’ that has been affecting Sachin.
All one needs is to clear the checkbox without a fail. Maybe Sachin does it, but, the other users on his computer are not doing it frequently enough and as a result Sachin ends up commenting under someone else’s name.
bobby007 on 21 Sep 2011, 02:26 PM
Oh..i see a lot of comments/suggestions. Can someone share any other IPL team doing so much for fans as has RCB done ?.... are'nt we all just becoming to individualistic in our efforts?... the big debate is 'Why has'nt MY idea been taken forward'?..if my idea has been implemented by Team RCB then the club is good . If not, then its bad!.
Sridhar-Bs on 24 Aug 2010, 09:36 AM
I really don't know what to say, but I'm just commenting to read all the comments posted after mine! :D

I want to play in an All India RCB Fan's cricket tournament, Possible?

As one of the winners of FFC 2, i take serious offence to this cheap statement made by Rocky. There are 2 things to this actually:
1) we made enough friends from among the fans during FFC. Fans like Naresh Kamat and Jayanth KBS were so amazing when i went to Manipal and Shimoga respectively.
At the Mighty 14 meets too, i went around interviewing some of the chosen fans, Ashish clicked pics, MR shot videos and Aneesh took people around the hotel and made them feel comfortable. I even took the fans' personal cameras and clicked pics of theirs when the players came to give jerseys.
2) Rockky himself was very irritating to all of us, and if any of us didnt treat him well, he deserved it. I remember how he kept coming to the hotel and troubled us no end. He came even when he was not invited. What then does he expect us to do? Fall at his feet everytime he imposes himself on us and the players?

I was shocked holmes when i saw this persons comment in a related post. Very bad ...
Sachinbengaluru on 21 Aug 2010, 06:51 PM
Copied the below comment of fanatic fan Rockky here-
'My Suggestion :—Select one who knows about cricket, like any Ranji player from Bangalore. People Will keep fighting for Name n Fame. Everyone want to take advantage of this Awesome community. more than 20 to 30 % are fake just trying to highlight their name.
Those who Won FFC-2 they all were non deserving and selfish. I had watched many IPL3 matches and attended IPL Night parties but they all were so arrogant when they see any RCB supporter from this site.
All winners were trying to act like they are GOD. really shameful.
I wasn’t active in this community because of selfish people.
I would suggest select more girls as a winner than guys.'

is tht the reality?
If this coment is totally nonsense as i am believing, i suggest some action against this person...
also chek his fanatic posts n decide if he deserves the fanatic tag
HOLMES on 21 Aug 2010, 06:33 PM
@radio:you are the most suited for that sandy!!!
maddydravid on 21 Aug 2010, 05:22 PM
I dont even think we need a CM (outside EC) in cities other than Bangalore. In Delhi and Mumbai, we have just 2 or 3 serious fans (on the website), and a CM for such a small number is not necessary.
But yes, Bangalore really really needs a local paid representative. Let EC or RCB select this person(s) through a democratic process, and i'm sure it'll work wonders...
radiosandeep on 21 Aug 2010, 05:03 PM
@Nidhi,

What happend to IPL's pledge for Green Earth contest.

Havent heard anything after that. Had sent photos as well.

Somehow it has dissapointed me a lot as there was no response from RCB either
Girish4RCB on 21 Aug 2010, 04:04 PM
@Sivan hmm I don't think Nidhi has rights to do that. RCB has hired EC for Social Media Marketing. And Nidhi is under EC. So she don't have rights. And yeah having CM's in 3 cities just like Fan ambassador city chapter is a good IDEA. And the idea of having a cricket fanatic as CM is great.
rakesh-katti on 21 Aug 2010, 03:17 PM
one more suggestion

please in the discussion forum make the order of threads(Topic) by the posts.

it means the order of the topic can change and we want that because we miss good topics by some bad topics and it does not feature in the latest and most of the fans did not go and search the topics.

so if it has the lineup by posts it will be very good.

and one more suggestion
please update the photo section by using a cool style bu COOLIRIS
just check how it looks by viewing this gallery of my school (and you can also choose another theme)

@nidhi...

1. How long is Rakesh assignment as CM?

2. Is it a full time 'paid' job?

3. Does he have "complete" control and "rights" like what you have?

4. Can he directly interact with the RCB management like you are doing to discuss issues, present his ideas, discuss fan issues etc?

5. Whats his exact role as CM?

I feel RCB management should seriously explore the idea of making 3 fanatic fans as CM and make it a full time job like what you guys are doing now. Let's give them a chance and see where they take the club.

With regards to Vinayak, it's his personal choice of being partial to Pradeep for whatever reasons. That does not take away his "TRUE RCB FANATICISM" status. He is one of the true / loyal / passionate / crazy RCB fan I have come across. Again this is my opinion :-)

Cheers

Sorry nidhi for that. I will mail this to the mail id u mentioned.

Btw, also do answer my question on my involvement for the ideas i gave as part of the Fan Summit, Design and Engagement.

My earlier comment (3rd from the bottom)

-- Hi Nidhi, will i be contacted when u start using the pointers i have given, i have more to offer, 20 page doc was just the start of it. --
Sachinbengaluru on 21 Aug 2010, 01:59 PM
@Siva - well Rakesh still has to become community manager as part of his prize on winning the Design a Contest activity. let's start with him. And I find it ironic you consider Vinayak appropriate for this position, I remember him being highly partial to Pradeep during FFC3.

@Sachin this is NOT the place to discuss bugs and expect a response. Email rcbsupport@royalchallengers.com

@soleiletchiots (hard to spell!!) yes agree about the jerseys. there is no stock of new jerseys yet.

@mridul I can only forward your suggestion to the brand. It takes a while to ensure production, distribution, partnership with local stores and availability of merchandise.

@Sachin & Siva you guys hijacked my post!!!! Why don't ya'll both email RCBsupport@royalchallengers.com and I'll forward over your suggestions as well
nidhi@RCB on 21 Aug 2010, 01:39 PM
Oh yaa it works when i remove the Remember Me checkbox.

One question - How long will the users credentials are preserved if he selects this Remember me. I think its forever.

Also note that the checkbox is default Enabled. It should actually be default disabled.
Sachinbengaluru on 21 Aug 2010, 01:10 PM
Very good thought mridul. RCB stores kinda is a good idea.
Sachinbengaluru on 21 Aug 2010, 01:04 PM
can any1 tell me at what time the results of Royal Send off contest will declare?????

@nidhi
Many Young rc fans and other rc fans can buy rcb MERCHANDISE(Silicon wrist band, Glow badge, Stadium Flag, Non toxic tattoos, Bandana, RCB tee-shirt) as they have to purchase online and they dont have credit card.
So make the merchandise available at athe shops of the all major cities in india so they can purchase them
mridul-mittal on 21 Aug 2010, 12:47 PM
@sachin - thats exactly why there is a Remember Me in the login page. May be we should have some messaging below to highlight the actual purpose of it. May be something like " To keep yourself logged in for next 2 weeks, please check Remember Me". Just a thought. Thats how many sites do. This is what I mean by UX. We cannot compromise User Experience and we need to come up with a solution that benefits all. I also have Gmail, Yahoo and I dont login everytime (at home) as it is not accessed by public like you mentioned about cybercafe. If any user wants to be logged in, give him the option and thats what Remember Me will do.

Cheers

The dummy fan base is certainly something that needs to be changed. The 90K fanbase is quite hollow because most of them have only registered to take part in a contest and that is their only participation. We appreciate that voting is just one factor and quality and other factors are being taken into account, but all the FFC contests have resulted in people registering simply to vote and disappear forever. Or worse, winning the contest and then disappearing forever. All those who have been shortlisted have been automatically given the fanatic fan status...but the question remains, are they? I've never been a part of FFC, but it's sad to see the temporary fan being favored over the genuine fan just because he has the skills. If RCB requires a professional photographer, blogger, podcaster, they can do so without tapping into their fan base. I'm not suggesting do away with the contests; let only the fanatic fans participate. And ensure that the fanatic fan title is given to those people who are deserving of it. Clean up the list. I think everyone is in favor of that. Because at the end of the day, they are reporting back to us and if they happen to be one of us the trust is there.

Oh and just another grouse: how come we keep getting the old versions of the RCB jerseys? It's quite bizarre that during Mighty 14 as official fans we were sporting the older vesion of the jersey. This is a minute thing, but something I've always been puzzled about. And now with the news that for CLT20, there will a new jersey, will we still be stuck wearing the original version of the jersey? I'm not asking for free jerseys every time there is a meetup, but could the actual jersey be arranged for an official event like the Fan Summit?
soleiletchiots on 21 Aug 2010, 12:08 PM
Siva, any website that needs to be secure needs to have new login for a new session.

Example - Yahoo Mail, Facebook there are lots more.

It is not a stats issue, it is a bug because you have mail id/password, every one who logins to RCB does. So if u close ur browser, cache/cookies are reset login should appear again. Its a basic, common feature in a website. It may mean that we are new session, i need to login again but thats fine, it is more secure.

Why Security - I go to a cyber cafe, i login, write blogs. i close the browser come back. Somebody else comes in uses the same PC, goes to royalchallengers.com, he doesnt see a login prompt as i was not logged out previosuly. So he can do anything now on my name , he can post blogs, write in the forum. Thats a security issue.

What is UX can you please elaborate more? As far as single login goes, every website has that. Say a Yahoo or Google has single login for variety of there sites but do they preserve ur credentials always. No.

Its definitely a bug coz any can do anything on my names as the user credentials are preserved.
Sachinbengaluru on 21 Aug 2010, 12:07 PM
@sachinbengaluru

Major bug on the site : My brother, my wife, my cousin all login from my system to rcb website. Whenever a new session is started it doesnt point to the login page , instead it save last session. So if my wife had logged in earlier and i open site fresh next time, her last session is still saved. If I forgot to logout and login my comments will be sent on her name. Lers fix this ...

I don't think this is a bug. It will become an UX issue once this gets changed as per your suggestion. You are facing this because you have 5 people logging from the same system. How many users will come across this scenario? We need stats. For majority of the users, for whom it is only single login it will be a UX issue.

As per your suggestion, the user cookie needs to be killed everytime a session ends (note - here I mean just closing the browser window or shutting down the system and not manually clearing the cookies). If I come back to the site in a fresh session, I need to re-login again to post something / add a comment. This is not ideal UX for an interactive site. And everytime I hit www.royalchallengers.com in a new session (note - my user cookie is still saved), I dont think it is a good idea to throw the login page to the user.

In your case, try this and I am sure it should solve your issue. When you login, DO NOT ENABLE "Remember Me" check box in the login page. So even you close the site, start a new browser session like you have mentioned above, it will prompt for a login next time you want to post a comment / create a post. So it looks like the current implementation is only if you check "Remember Me" the user cookie is saved. Try it and you will figure it out.

@Nidhi - this is not a bug. If this is fixed as mentioned by Sachin, then it becomes a "major" UX issue where everytime a user hits the RCB site, he / she needs to login and this is not recommended. The solution for Sachin is simple as mentioned above.

Thanks

Can we do a role reversal? Identify top 3 "Fanatic Fans". Preferably one from each of the top 3 cities where RCB fan following is more. Bangalore, Mumbai and may be Delhi. Give them a full time "PAID" role of Community Manager.

We need someone who is professionally experienced, understands fan sentiments better especially the pulse of the local / loyal fans (which is very important), unbiased approach, who loves RCB to the core (pure fanatics) and someone who also understands cricket. One example would be Vinayak Sanjay (this is just an example...there are many more like this). They should be hand picked by the management (agency should not be involved here). Give them a time period of 6 months and then let's all meet again and assess. What say?

Cheers

Copying this from my comment on another post:
Nidhi and Co., hope you take my feedback positively.

I understand that your intention is to increase RCB’s fan base as much as possible, and that is good no doubt. But then, i get a feeling that numbers are being given too much importance. Yes, as a profit making company, you have to show numbers to impress RCB, who in turn will be proud to quote these numbers to the media. But frankly tell me, what percentage of this 90000 are genuine fans who even log in to the website?

Some simple math here (approximate numbers):
21 were chosen for finals, and say another 29 were featured apps. and these 50 had about 100 votes on an average, so, 5000 votes. atleast 4000 of them would have been from the friends of these 50 who had to register on the site to only to vote. now, this is only the featured apps of only FFC3. take all the apps of all 3 FFCs, and we would have a big dummy fan base.

Now, Holmes (and a few others too) have raised a valid point about how we can find out who a real fan is and who is not. My suggestion would be to allow just fanatic fans to participate in the FFC. then even the name fanatic fans challenge would be appropriate.

how does one become a fanatic fan? simple… the ones who contribute on the site, organise and/or participate in meet-ups, may be even those who purchase more using the RCKC loyalty card.

Fanatic fans can be added or removed on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. dont fear that this number may come down to 10 or 20, it’s fine as long as those guys are the really fanatic ones.

by doing this, u avoid the possibility of people coming in to win prizes and then walking out soon after. u also entice other people to become fanatic fans and therefore they would contribute something. fanatic fans need to be rewarded for being fanatic fans. i’m sure it would be heartbreaking for them to see non-rcb fans come and take all the limelight only during contests.
radiosandeep on 20 Aug 2010, 08:42 PM
Well said pradeep. I like the fan awards part there.
Sachinbengaluru on 20 Aug 2010, 08:10 PM
@Nidhi, Sharing the best practices in the sense?
Like how to make Meet ups in Dutch? Or how to get more fans & get the meet up more active?

Where you think we can have a meet up?
A coffee shop - We can't just order a coffee & sit there for 4hrs & talk about what we are gonna do to help RCB or the Management better.. Not happening..

@Pradeep.. Good one..
allen-abhishek on 20 Aug 2010, 08:06 PM
We should have a exclusive Member Club (With Membership fees, perhaps) where matches could be screened live, events could be held, and where fans can even hang out ( members enjoying the benefits of discounted rates for beverages, snacks )

This is of course, on a long-term scale.

-------------------

Regarding sponsorship for meet-ups,

We could have RCB Sponsored meets held Quarterly and Annually.
Quarterly meets could be limited to
1. Coffee Shops,
2. Occasional(not Regular) Trips/Events at a Region!

There could be a grand Annual meet held at different cities (Or Bangalore only) where there could be a yearly recognition of Fans, Loyalty Rewards. The Management Staff, Players should be present at these for interaction with the fans and the Management and for discussion of various issues from Team Selection, to Player selection etc.

----
The idea is to keep exclusivity and reputation of the brand 'RCB', and to cherish the whole experience!
Xtrem15t on 20 Aug 2010, 08:01 PM
Ah sure nidhi please do discuss and get back.

When i meant that we get new fans, i was talking of fan meet ups being a way to get new fans, its not linked to money here.

Larger picture - Why we need sponsorship? Encourage fans come, meet, participate more in RCB Contests and more.
Sachinbengaluru on 20 Aug 2010, 07:50 PM
@Allen ah. Spoke to her. I hope things are better now :)
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 07:45 PM
@Sachin the issue is beyond me now. Meet ups are supposed to be casual! I personally think the club paying people to get new fans is NOT okay. That's the furthest away from cricket it can get! But I do understand it's hard for City Ambassadors to conduct meetups. Maybe one solution is for Ambassadors across the country to discuss best practices. Also, let me consult the club next week (since it's the weekend) to explore sponsored meetups.
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 07:44 PM
Nidhi : I agree with you that its unreasonable to pay for coffee when people meet. But what if they meet for discussing RCB, getting new people on board thru these meet ups, it should be sponsored

Ok let all the Fan Ambassadors who organize the meet up give you details and data on what happened in the meet up, let there be definite agenda. This needs sponsorship. Make the system robust, no one should misuse the system here.

Allen is doing a good job and he can do a better job with some money sponsored.

I am game for it to talk on these issues ... Let me know your views ...
Sachinbengaluru on 20 Aug 2010, 07:04 PM
@Nidhi, Spoke with Natasha about the same. Thank you..
allen-abhishek on 20 Aug 2010, 06:44 PM
@Arjun i'm a little surprised at how strongly there is a need for sponsorship for meetups. it's definitely something we'll discuss with the team. But is it that unreasonable for people to meet for coffee and pay for their own coffee...? (pls don't take this wrong, I'm genuinely concerned / confused about this)
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 06:30 PM
@Allen, can you provide me with specific examples as to bad "people management". Maybe this conversation would be better 1 on 1. Is it okay if I call you? Clearly there must have been something extremely serious that happened to tick you off.

@Mridul - we give Fanatic Fan status to fans who win campaigns and also to fans who "earn" it. It can be "earned" if you're a great writer who can write about cricket for example. basically if you have something to offer to the Fan Club. Email me @ nidhi@royalchallengers.com for more details
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 06:29 PM
can you tell me how can i become a fanatic fan from a fan
mridul-mittal on 20 Aug 2010, 05:57 PM
i think we need a bangalore based CM . So he could here us out and or a CM jus for the fans so there can be more space available for fans . I mean we cant just blog or share few pics about RCB . We need a guy to look and here us . I didnt mean the present cm isnt doing it the right way but we need a fan CM .
And coming to sponsorship .. i mean we do need some help. theres a difference sponsorship and financial help , i hope u see the diff
arjun-venkatesh on 20 Aug 2010, 05:16 PM
@ CM well all we are asking is a place to meet other fans, talk to them about RCB and occasionally see RCB play together. well dutch treat is fine once or twice well it wont stop die hard fans from coming to the fan meetups but the cult following wont happen if the management doesn't step in.
druv-setty on 20 Aug 2010, 04:22 PM
What happened has happened.. It's time to think about what can be done better.. I would be saying the some of the same things what Rakesh told on this thread..
I'm sure because of the trust you have in both of us you have given us a chance to update the fan page & twitter..
RCB is doing a great job in Managing the Website & Contests.. But not people management I guess..And if you tell that we are doing the contest & FFC for the people, I think there's a whole other world apart from contest we are talking about here..
The whole thing about MUMBAI & BANGALORE has come up because of nothing happening in B'lore & not because we don't like Mumbai..
allen-abhishek on 20 Aug 2010, 03:37 PM
Rakesh,u ryt chap..As informed earlier, the fan meet ups was supposed to be sponsered by the Club. But nothin has been done. Thats not fair. Ppl update the site 24/7. Not e1 thankin dem.! Same continues.. Der won be fan meet up in bang.!
red09 on 20 Aug 2010, 03:29 PM
Good initiative by the CMs to the fans...hopefully it is a 360 deg appraisal of all activities happening here and there is transparency in everything!
praveen-rcforlife on 20 Aug 2010, 03:26 PM
Yes .. we need support on RCB Fan meet up and they sponsors in Bangalore meet ups ... because we cant put from over hand in meet ups.. we have more fans in our home town and last time we discuss on this RCB promised in fan Summit in meet ups but still no response from RCB community head side .. We need ur help for RCB meet ups in Bangalore.we are RCB I Bleed Red & Gold - I'm a RCB Fan,and i am admin in FB - Proud To Be With Red & Gold Team - We Are RCB'ians - see u can observe here in fb also we creating lots of fan page for RCB .. we love RCB .. Eeeps! Will send the bug to rcbsupport@royalchallengers.com asap (p.s. fastest way to solved bugs is to send them to that email address)
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 01:18 PM
Sure Nidhi.

I echo sentiments of rakesh there. We are putting extra effort, we are using our free time to contribute. I am sure we will get more support from you guys.

Follow up is always the key, whatever we do, its just not about getting new fans to the site its about retaining the better fans who joined earlier.

We dont want 10,00,000 fans by the end of the year we would like to have 1,00,000 fans who contribute by the end of the year and i am sure its not just moderators job, we fans ourselves need to contribute.

Having one moderator sit in bangalore is a must i feel.

Sachinbengaluru on 20 Aug 2010, 01:11 PM
@Rakesh - apologize, never knew you felt that way. We've always held you in high esteem and have seen you and Allen as instrumental in developing the Bangalore chapter of the Fan Club - the largest chapter as you can be sure!

The CMs, the team, we all appreciate your hard work and time you give to the club. This is why we've trusted the responsibility of updating social media to you. We felt this adequately conveyed our gratitude and trust in you.

In addition, we'd like to appreciate the hard work put in by all the active fans. It's because of you all that this club is big and growing bigger.
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 12:50 PM
The only one concern for me is. The response from CM's to fans. Its really horrible. U need to know that without fans there is no work for you. I wish u ppl understand that even we have other work. Like working, studying etc. We are spending our most valuable time to write mails and do so much for the club. And if we don't receive at least two words "Thank You" from you. Its bad. I have really lost all my enthusiasm writing for the club. This is the main issue. If this is solved, Everything will be fine. And as others said It is difficult for a person in mumbai to carry the emotions of Bangalore fan.
rakesh-katti on 20 Aug 2010, 12:37 PM
@Sachin will take a little while to respond to that comment, but will try to cover all those points.

@MaddyDravid - i believe the Fan Summit social media team is working on download pics for mobile.. Ringtones are planned for CLT20.... Videos will be available through YouTube. Themes & games will take a little longer.
nidhi@RCB on 20 Aug 2010, 09:50 AM
Hi Nidhi, will i be contacted when u start using the pointers i have given, i have more to offer, 20 page doc was just the start of it.

Feedback,

Its important to organize contests but its doubly important to follow up after a contest is over. This is little slow now. My Winners for the Design a Contest have still not got prizes, i dont have any answers but to say wait as i have nothing in my hands.

Mails as some one said, they are normally not answered.

Bangalore fans need to get more heads up, fan meet up budget is the major one.

Contests are good, i am hoping to see new things instore for us once CLT20 starts.

We love this club and i am sure this feedback is just a way to make this club even better.
Sachinbengaluru on 20 Aug 2010, 07:39 AM
One suggestion nidhi.well now there are two categories-Fans and Fanatic fans.If this can be modified like for fanatic fans it should be for each player,i mean the top 5 fanatic fans for each player must be selected and they should do as a team or seperately stuffs related to that player.so this will put an end to these comparisons and fights. And in the website it will be good if a downloads section is given.eg:themes, ringtones, videos, games for mobile phone.it should be open for all phones like nokia, blackberry, iphone etc...
