IPL 7 Auctions-Day 1

The day we had been anticipating for arrived with much fan fare. The first day of the IPL 7 Auctions started sharp at 9:30 AM at the ITC Gardenia in Bangalore. With the announcement of the retained players in January, there was already a lot of speculation on which player would complete each of the squads. Auctioneer Richard Madley started the proceedings bang on time.

The Marquee players were the first to be auctioned. Yuvraj Singh joined RCB after a minor counter bidding from KKR. Virender Sehwag changed his Delhi Jersey to Punjab. Murali Vijay was sold to Delhi Daredevils and so was Kevin Peterson. Every all-rounder up in Set 2 for the bid, found a home as well. George Bailey was picked up by King's XI Punjab whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad used their Right to Match to keep Darren Sammy
in the side. Brendon McCullum joined CSK whereas Faf du Plessis also went back to the side. Zaheer Khan was bought back by Mumbai Indians and Dinesh Kartik went to Delhi Daredevils. The morning session saw a lot of changes in teams.

After making the biggest purchase in the history of RCB with the bid for Yuvraj Singh at Rs 14 cr , the management bought Parthiv Patel, Albie Morkel, Nic Maddinson, Mitchell Starc, Ashoke Dinda, Mutthiah Muralitharan and Varun Aaron. Much to the delight of the fans, these players were very well received.

The afternoon session remained rather lack-lustre with most players going unsold including some major players.

Tomorrow will see the bidding of uncapped players and a re-bid of the unsold players. Let's hope to see some incredible action from the auction tomorrow.
