Pujara, India’s Probable Test Captain?

royal challengersCheteshwar Pujara who was handpicked for the role of leading the Indian A side, proved to be a great investment for the selectors, winning the series handsomely.

Pujara, with his caliber and right attitude to lead a side and make crucial decisions, can now be looked upon as a back up to captain Team India in Tests. He has the hunger of a fresh cricketer and experience of leading the national side simultaneously. His brand new vision could be instrumental in taking India from the No 3 Test side to the number 1 Test side. Similarly, having experience to play Test matches does matter, but initiating young talent is the need of the hour. The younger players can mature playing the long format, which will eventually help them in other forms of the game as well.

Pujara’s ODI outing against Zimbabwe wasn’t too favorable and he didn’t manage to take off with the bat but in the tri-series in South Africa series he showed true prowess as a captain. Now, with his recent 137 against South Africa A, and clinching an innings defeat in the first Test, he has surely shown potential. If Pujara remains as consistent with the bat and if he manages to get a good run in the ODIs and his captaincy decisions prove to fall in his favor, he could be a top contender for the big role in the Test side.

Good start, even though we could have done better in 2nd test. As a batsman next two away series are important for him ..
