Reflections

I owe this to all the fans, you have brought up extremely valid points. I felt this analysis of the community managers' role in the Fanatic Fans Challenge deserved a post of its own instead of being a comment that might be lost.

Here's my understanding of what we did wrong.

- did not anticipate farcical voting

- did not update T&Cs to reflect farcical voting (still unsure if this would have been fair to all)

- did not highlight effectively that Voting & references were only 50% of decision process (see Terms & Conditions)

- did not give extremely strict guidelines on what bloggers were expected to convey in applications (this enables creativity, but resulted in confusion). should have realized the almost 1,000 blogger prospectives would interpret it differently. (contrast the fake ipl blogger to the folks at cricinfo for example!)

- potentially too many channels of communication open - i find that some of my comments may have been lost in the thread, which led to frustration/confusion on my part since I was replying to the same concerns multiple times.

- did not explain sufficiently and early enough that this isn't the only competition! this is RCB's official website, cricket runs through RCB's blood and all us fan's blood. Much more to come in the future.

In future, we will:
- work on a better, tighter voting system - if we decide to go for a voting system at all.

- consider possibility of having a Q&A with selection panel and document the questions and answers that are controversial and come up the most.

- give community fans bigger role in addressing issues like 'fake votes' - perhaps through a discussion forum?

- respect the emotions that are bound to come out in a cricket fanatic fan community - especially ours, with solid seasoned players like Kumble and Dravid, amazing upcoming ones like Kohli and Pandey... not to forget Dr. Mallya who is beyond the description of mere words, amazing. Read Sandip's post The Big(ger) Picture, where he outlines how a lot more than just 3 fans can get involved in very very substantial roles.

@Nidhi
Thank God youre not taking part in this contest. We would have had one blogger off the list....cause you would have definitely made it. :). Being calm and composed like you while providing answers to every single post here definitely proves your mettle about being a responsible blogger.Keep up the good work! Hope to see you soon.

I have run through all the comments posted by our fans- some heartfelt, some reasonable and some that bordered on being sentimental. There's got to be only one way to look at what has turned out through this exercise- Umpires decision is final and has to be respected. Like a batsmen of the stature of Tendulkar and Dravid will take it in their stride if they get a questionable decision only to come back and make their next innings count. If one keeps knocking, we all get a second chance. Let us make a concerted effort to live the spirit of the game, in a manner that befits the Royals. Game for a challenge, game for good times. :) Love, Peace & Energy guys!
