Twenty20 – A boon to Indian Cricket
For years, cricket has been following the conventional route - from technique to style and so on. T20 was introduced as the "X factor” to an already famous sport, taking it one notch higher on the popularity quotient. This exciting, lightning fast format has given birth to a number of young and talented individuals, who were once stuck at the domestic level, waiting for their chance to break through in the national team. Twenty20 cricket gave them a platform to showcase their potential, enabling them to make a strong case for themselves.
Nowadays, cricketers are quicker to adapt to changing conditions around them, thanks to the unpredictability of this format. The choice of strokeplay that goes into a T20 game is completely different from that in ODIs and Tests. Batsmen become aware of their limitations, and it pushes them to achieve more with less resources at hand. Bowlers learn the art of variation, while the fielders undergo intense practice sessions to perfect their fielding skills. Qualities like teamwork, dedication and commitment help youngsters prepare for the bigger stage. It would be safe to say that T20 is a “stepping stone” in a cricketer’s career
Above all, Twenty20 has an even bigger message to convey: The world is full of endless possibilities! Despite receiving a lot of flak from critics, it still comes across as a powerful force that binds the sport and its fans in a manner that is hard to explain.
They, along with the fab members of the Fan Advisory Board, plot new schemes to engage with fans and trouble shoot their problems.
