Virat Kohli - Top 5 #SeizeTheDay Innings
Virat Kohli is set to play his 100th match for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL today when he will take the field against the Mumbai Indians at their own den. Kohli has been a revelation in the cricketing world. From a raw talent looking to make it big, Kohli has developed into the quintessential role model at the mere age of 25. He has been with RCB since the first season in 2008, and is now the leader of the pack. To commemorate this special occasion for the RCB skipper, lets have a look at the top 5 innings of Virat Kohli in his IPL journey:
5) RCB vs DC - 22nd April, 2009:
This match played at Cape Town will always be remembered as the start of a legacy. Coming in to bat at no. 6 in a tough chase, Kohli showed real character in scoring his first ever IPL half century. In a sticky situation, Kohli managed to smash 50(32) - an innings comprising of 7 boundaries. RCB lost the match by 24 runs, but Virat Kohli stamped his authority and gave a glimpse of what was in store for the future.
4) DD vs RCB - 17th May, 2012:
Batting first at Delhi, RCB lost an early wicket in Dilshan, but Virat Kohli came in to dazzle the opponents. Along with Chris Gayle, Kohli forged a 204-run partnership, which is also the highest ever partnership for RCB and the 2nd highest in IPL history. Playing the support role in the start of the innings, Kohli later took centre stage and destroyed the Daredevils’ bowling attack to post a mammoth 215/1. Kohli scored an unbeaten 73(53) and was a major reason for RCB’s win in the match.
3) DC vs RCB - 14th April, 2011:
Chasing 175 at Hyderabad, RCB were in trouble with the loss of 3 early wickets within 5 overs. Out came Virat Kohli and took the game to the opposition at their own home ground. Kohli played a calm yet quick innings of 71(51) against a quality bowling lineup that boasted of Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma. Lack of support from the other end saw RCB losing the game by 33 runs, but Kohli sure did give nightmares to the bowlers with his 5 fours and 3 sixes - an effort that almost single-handedly took the match away.
2) RCB vs SRH - 9th April, 2013:
One of the best innings played by Virat Kohli in the IPL, this was one dominating performance indeed! Having to chase a total of 161 against SRH - the same team who had defeated them in a Super Over finish just days ago, a seething Kohli hit a brilliant 93*(60). Big wickets fell at the other end in Gayle and de Villiers, but Kohli - unfazed by it all hit 11 fours and 4 sixes to take the match by the scruff of its neck. His blitzkrieg resulted in a 7 wicket drubbing with 14 balls to spare for the visitors from Hyderabad.
1) DD vs RCB - 10th May, 2013:
Setting a target for Delhi Daredevils to chase, Virat Kohli took control of the situation when Chris Gayle was dismissed cheaply. He went on to score his individual best in IPL - 99(58) to set a daunting target of 184 for the home side. With Pujara and Henriques also not doing much at the other end, Kohli held anchor and scored heavily against the pace of Morne Morkel and experience of Irfan Pathan, while also taking Umesh Yadav to the cleaners. The flourish at the end of the innings he provided along with AB de Villiers proved too hot to handle for DD as they lost the match eventually.
He, along with the fab members of the Fan Advisory Board, plot new schemes to engage with fans and trouble shoot their problems.
