Followed international cricket since 1992. I am aware of India's legendary cricketers of the past. I am the happiest person when Rahul Dravid pulls/hooks a bouncer to the deep mid wicket or deep square leg fence for four. Especially when he shifts his weight from front foot to back foot and rolls his wrists over the ball to keep on the ground...it reminds me of his centuries in tests vs South Africa in South Africa. I hate the concept of 20-20. At the same time I like RCB!! See any contradiction...
I am the most fanatic RCB fan because...
...I am not the most fanatic RCB fan. Yes, that is the very reason I am here to blog for them. I believe that RCB stands for "Right Spirit" (what a wonderful combination...Kumble likes to play cricket in right spirit, Dr Mallya wants people to appreciate "spirit" in the right way... :-) You might think that my spellings have gone all wrong. How can RCB stand for Right Spirit? It should be RS, doesn' it? Well...that is the way it is. Cricket is one of the most unpredictable games on this planet, you see.
Strategy Map for RCB - Airtel Champions League
My preferred line up :
In batting order M.Pandey, J. Ryder, V.Kohli, R.Dravid, R. Taylor, M. Boucher(wk), P. Kumar, R. Vinay Kumar, B Akhil, D. W. Steyn, A. Kumble (c), and R. van der Merwe
why do I prefer this line up :
I can think only of cricketing reasons. I do not write names because I like people. Please see my opening match strategy. You will come to know why I recommend this line up.
My opening match strategy:
I do not believe in "go ahead and give your best" policy. Bat first to get 200 or Field first to restrict opposition to less than 130. Sounds too simple to me. I do not believe in "keeping it simple all the time". Because most of the times things are not simple. Be ready to either bat or field first. It is all "probability theory"!! If Batting First: Unfortunately, RCB is full of right handed batsmen. Hence, Ryder gets a go ahead. He also bowls a bit. You need variety. Send in Kohli at 3. (Kohli and Dravid at 3 and 4-Flexible) If we are going anything less than or equal to 8 an over when third wicket goes down, send Boucher at No 5. Anything better than 8 per over, send in Taylor at No 5. (Boucher and Taylor at 5 and 6-Flexible) Pravin, Vinay, Steyn and Kumble follow. Ideally the last two should not be required to bat. If Fielding First: I pick Steyn ahead of Kallis because of his pace. You need fast bowlers to remove lower order batsmen. Open with Steyn and Praveen. Give them atleast 2 overs each. Kumble should bring himself or B Akhil on very early. Probably share 2 overs with Vinay Kumar at one end. Try Ryder in between. Kumble, Praveen and Steyn finish the last 6 overs between them. Kumble has lot of faith in van der Merwe. I would not stop him, if likes to play Merwe ahead of any other player of his choice. No Peiterson in my line up. He needs re-hab. Many other nitty gritties are there. I shall write them in detail once I start blogging for RCB.
My best T20 match:
I know that Ian Chappell remembers cricket trivia like a computer. I cannot. I remember moments in a match. I remember special pieces of commentary. I remember some important shots and how they reached the fence. I remember some important deliveries that missed the batsman's bat or hit him. I do not remember dates.
