I CAN BE RC'S CHIEF BlOGGER BECAUSE..
Hey! I’m Purnima Malhotra, a second year Journalism student from University of Delhi, an aspiring sports journalist and an ardent Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble fan! No prizes for guessing, Royal Challengers Bangalore is the team I root for! Ever since I started watching the game, about 10 years ago, I have learnt one thing, Rahul Dravid and defeat can’t be framed into one sentence! 10 years of fanaticism and I’ve religiously followed his game. More than anything else, I idolize him for the sheer amount of dedication and commitment towards the game, be it a Ranji match or an international encounter! I might not be a Bangalorean, Punjabi I’m, I might even not be living in B’lore, but with my fanaticism for RCB, I can put any Banglorean to shame, anyday! I stand against all odds and intimately follow the team where my heart is! "Shut up you! They ain’t chokers!! If B’lore doesn’t reach the finals next season, I’ll jump off my building!” The only reason I ever regret saying this is I wish I would have said they’ll win it! Game for More, eh?! I pride myself on being a girl, who contrary to the norms, is passionate about the game and has quite an exhaustive knowledge about the history and developments of the game as well as of facts and stats of my team players! I’m a keen observer and I ardently follow even the minute proceedings of the game, be it any form, any team. I can be the chief blogger for RCB because I feel more than the professional skills required for this genre; I have the zeal and the potential to be one. I can narrate my team’s journey to OUR ultimate goal as every fan would wish to know, together with a strict adherence to the ethics! I have a fetish for writing, cricket and traveling and a combination of the three with my team, RCB, whoa! can’t ask for more!
MY STRATEGY FOR ROYAL CHALLENGERS IN IPL 2010
After quite a successful run in the previous two campaigns, read IPL II and Airtel Champions League, RCB is brimming with confidence and the determination to stamp their authority in this most competitive, versatile and shortest version of the game in the domestic circuit. Led by legendary Anil Kumble, my team is a perfect blend of seasoned campaigners like Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Kevin Pietersen and Mark Boucher who add solidity to the batting line-up, the captain himself who spearheads the bowling department, aptly assisted by Dale Steyn, Roelof van der Merwe and the young albeit talented Praveen Kumar, as well as the youth brigade including Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder, Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey, apart from this year’s domestic season’s most consistent performers— Abhimanyu Mithun and Vinay Kumar. Anil Kumble has led the team from the front, enthusiastically, experimenting often and succeeding too in almost every move. As a matter of fact, in a twenty-overs-a-side game, with the matches being played on the Indian turf it is no rocket science to predict what a captain would want to opt for. The team will have to adapt well and quickly to the changing dynamics of game, the strategies have to be evolved and executed well and timely. A perfectly balanced team, in my opinion would be, four batsmen and as many bowlers, a keeper and two all-rounders, depending on the form, performance and the conditions. Attack from the word go, capitalize on opponents’ weaknesses, exploit the conditions to their advantage and conceal an early advantage. My team excels in all the three fundamental departments of the game with add-on advantages of skills, experience and versatility backing every chance of their victory! Royal Challengers, Game for More!
