Cricket & your City, Cricket in your City
Tell us about cricket and what it means to your city, how it is followed, any RCB fans there?
We want to know about it all
We want to know about it all
If your an Indian and haven't played gully cricket in childhood then there is something wrong in you or your locality. Yeah cricket run in our bloods. We Indians have taken to such an extent that we probably bunk classes or jobs to watch the India's match or keep annoying people around us to know the score. We Indians take each and every ball very seriously, we don't watch cricket for entertainment we just experience the game. Most buzzing streets of the town will be completely empty during an international cricket match. I hail from Bangalore. Hearing to the word Bangalore the first few words that come into your mind are RCB, Chinnaswamy, Garden City, Dravid, Jumbo, Uthappa etc. Yeah Bangalore is been one of the cricketing hub. The NCA (National Cricket Academy) located in Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore, established in 2000 is a cricket facility of BCCI for training young cricketers who are having the potential to represent the Indian cricket team. If any player is not fit, the first thing he does is come to NCA for some fitness program. Bangalore and Chinnaswamy Stadium has given India and World many Cricketing legends. Bangalore has lots of cricketing aspirants. There are thousands of children from different age groups waiting for an opportunity to play cricket in higher levels. Cricket Grounds, Cricket Clubs, Small tournaments, Inter school leagues, encouragement in school for Kids has strengthened the passion towards cricket in this part of India. After RCB came into existence cricket in Bangalore got a new dimension. RCB stole all the hearts of cricket fans in Bangalore and even fans from other parts of the world. RCB is a team that respect their fans loyalty. RCB has broken the bridge between Club and Fans. RCB is now a family of 90000 people. RCB meet ups, Summit etc. make the bonding stronger. RCB is the only open heart team that accepts ideas from fans to take the club to higher levels. RCB is the only team that allows fans to maintain the club. Be it blogging, podcasting or updating facebook or twitter status anything. Fans are ready to literally do anything for the club. The passion, commitment of the fans towards the club or cricket is commendable. Watching a cricket match in Bangalore is a pleasure. But purchasing a ticket is really a pain. Buying that ticket is worth the pain and money paid. Sometimes you may have to pay 2000 or 3000 for a ticket costing 110. Its really difficult task to get the tickets if you are late. The vibrant colors of fans, the card boards, funny avatars, the RCB RCB chants, the Mexican wave, cheer leaders, the DJ music, BIG screen, booing when things doesn't go well and your loving Players presence will make you feel heaven. Bangalore crowd is one of the most sportive crowd that applauses even when opponent strikes well. Anyways RCB or Bangalore always symbolizes Game For Life.

The war called Cricket Here goes my report on Local Cricket Match. (All the names of the players are imaginary, Just like Spoof movies here goes my spoof cricket match (nobody would keep such names anyway. )) Finals of BCLT20 (Bangalore Champions League T20) MI vs RCB at Palace Grounds. Match between Malleshwaram Indians(MI) and Rajajinagar Chalukya Boyz (RCB) at Palace Grounds, Bangalore. Weather report : The report said humidity will be a bit high in the first innings. Pitch Report : The surface is little moist and will stay so during the first half of the game. Review : Both weather and pitch report is in favor of team Bowling first. If your team has fast Bowlers you are better off bowling as the conditions favor swing Bowlers. When will the match start? It was 07:45 PM on a brisk summer evening. It was for the first time that I was out somewhere in my holidays instead of sitting at home glued to my computer screen. I had to finish my match report assignment, So took my DigiCam, voice recorder to catch all the colours of the match. Well, league matches started at 8:00 Pm. As this is grand finale we had some minor delays. How was the atmosphere? The whole ground was buzzing with colors and the atmosphere at the ground was electric. I had got tickets for the match well before a week as this match had got a lot of hype all over the city. I badly wanted to report this match at the RCB Chief FF Contest. For the first time I could see Vuvuzelas in a cricket match instead of Normal Air Horns found during Indian Cricket matches. The owner of RCB had generously given away Vuvuzelas to all his supporters. However the whole ground was turned RED with RCB fan gears like Team Jersey, tattoos, bandhans, Flags etc. I wondered if all its supporters were so rich to buy original merchandises, But I was shocked when I heard that most of them had got them through online contests on their official website. Grand Finale. I somehow rushed through the crowd, almost trampled an half strangled.. but the struggle paid off and I managed a seat in the front row. It was already 8:15. Many star icons had gathered to watch this Final Clash. Ramya, RCB's ambassador went rounds with songs from her movie played from the blaring speakers. Later we had Kannada's famous singer Rajesh who sung a melodious song which was one of my favorite. People were on their feet throughout the event. After a few performances, I was waiting for fireworks display to come out, but like me, everyone were disappointed when it was learnt that there was no fireworks display(I later learnt that the reason for this was for security as well as pollution control, I have to say I was impressed by their decision). Team intro. Ravi (Ravi Mystery) who is a famous commentator in the town started speaking in for the audience. Here it is in his own words- "Hey Folks, Good evening. You are watching the final clash of a 45 days long tournament on your favorite Pet max, As you all know MI has stayed on top throughout the tournament and even RCB is one of the best team around... " Well I couldn't hear anything after that as he moved on to middle of the pitch. Here starts my report. Are you ready to witness the clash between these two outstanding teams who have come to finals. RCB was as usual captained by anil (Anil Kunale) and team MI by the experienced sachin (Sachin Dusulkar). Both the men went to middle of the pitch and the referee tossed the coin that would decide the fate of the toss. Team MI had won the toss and Sachin as expected in a big match, chose to Bat first. Anil said he couldn’t feel any better loosing the toss as he wanted to choose bowling himself citing dew factor as the reason. Demolition in Last 5. The game started within 5 minutes of the toss. Before the game started, the players of both team assembled on the pitch and the anthems of both teams were played. Later the legend of the city Sachin and the other opener Dhawan (Mountain Dhawan) entered the field. From other side RCBian Steyn (Bail Styen) was expected to bowl the first over But surprisingly Anil started the game. So the first ball of the game was between two legends of the game in the city. Initially RCB held the things under control. But picking up the wickets was the problem. RCB were happy at the rate at which MI were scoring as it was just 59/2 at the end of 10 overs. As the game progressed, Things started changing dramatically in the last five overs of MI innings. It was 107 for 4 after 15 overs. Saurabh (Saurabh Three Worry) and Pollard (Key runs Pollard) played a delightful cameo to charge MI to 184. With more than 7 sixes hit by this duo the last 5 overs was a real treat for the crowd. Holding the nerve till the last over of the game. I wish to speak more about second innings, as it was really the most exciting part of the game. RCB had a very strong batting line up which could easily chase down the score. Unfortunately the openers Kallis (Jokes Kallis) and Pandey (Man ishq Pandey) didn't give a good start. Wickets kept on falling in regular intervals. MI bowler Harbhajan (Harbhajan can Sing) picked 3 wickets in his first 3 overs giving away just 20 runs. Well RCB were struggling hard to come back into the game as the score after 12 overs was 98 for 6. RCB had already lost the most important wickets of Rahul (Rahul Dhanush), Kallis and Ross (Ross Tailor). Now Robin (Robin Sxappa) was on strike with Kohli (Veer at Kohli) on non strikers end. This 13th over gave RCB some hope as it fetched 12 runs with one 6 by Kohli. But things were again ruined as Kohli gave his wicket in 14th over. It was 116 at the end of 14th over. Praveen (Praveen puma) had replaced Kohli. Though RCB were ahead of MI at this stage, MI were still at the top of the game. You cant expect Robin to do miracles in every match. RCB needed 68 runs from 6 overs. In 15th over Harbhajan was brutally punished by Robin as he sent three balls out of the ground giving RCB some glimpse of hope with 27 runs in the over. Now RCB had just 41 runs required from 30 balls. But just one wicket would have turned down everything for RCB. Well Robin retained strike as much as possible. He managed 7 runs in 16th over. As RCB entered 17th over, Praveen was on strike and Lasith (Lasith My longa) had the Ball. Praveen couldn't rotate the strike hence the pressure built up. Robin walked down the pitch after 3 dot balls and had a little chat with praveen. Praveen took a double on fourth ball and made things difficult by giving away one more dot. Robin sent back praveen when he had chance of taking a single on the last ball. RCB now needs 32 from 18, this was not impossible task but the wicket factor made it a little difficult. Robin managed 2 boundaries and a single on the last ball of 18th over. RCB needs 23 from 12. Well Lasith was the Bowler, But don't fret because our Robin is on strike. First two balls did not fetch any run, Pressure was on Robin. SMACK!!!!! It was a straight over the bowlers head to a DLF maximum. Seeing the fine leg inside the circle 4th ball was guided towards fine leg which went for a four. 5th ball was a dot. Well I was jumping on my feet waiting for one more six from our favorite Robin. The crowd was ecstatic and the Robin Robin chant was louder than Football vuvuzela's noise. Yes as expected the last ball went for a Six. But I was disappointed as Robin lost his strike. Well the last ball was a NO BALL which gave Robin a free hit. Robin now had two options, either take a single to comfortably chase down the 5 runs left in last over or go for a Six and finish it off. Nail Biting moments. I even saw a banner in the crowd stating "Demolition in progress". At this point of time RCB were on top for sure. Robin hits the last ball straight towards the bowler. But it was not middled properly hence went into the hands of the bowler, It was a Karbon Kamaal Katch of the day if it was counted. As it was a free hit I don't think this catch will be considered. Robin had run half way the pitch and slowed down once he saw the bowler catching the ball, realized it was a free hit, ran and stretched himself hard to reach the crease. Bowler himself had moved towards the wicket and broken the bails. Well it was seriously most thrilling moment of the game as the decision for this run out was referred to 3rd Umpire. DJ in the field played the usual heart beat sound as the decision was in progress. Each and every heart in the ground was pounding till the result. The result sadly said OUT. :( Vinay (Vinay Puma) entered the field in no time. Everyone had all their hopes on Vinay and Praveen. RCB needed 6 of 6. Vinay took a double on the first delivery driving the ball towards covers. Next two balls were dots. Then Vinay took a single with a leg glance. Praveen on strike and RCB needs 3 from 2. All the fielders came in to control single. I was hoping the match to go to Super over so that the cricket festival would go on for a few more minutes. Praveen smashed the ball straight, Fortunately it was a top edge which ran to the boundary line just above the keeper. Everyone ran into the field and lifted Praveen up. There were even depressed MI fans who had come long way from their area to see their team loose. Till the last moment both teams held the game so tight that not even single person in the stance moved from their benches. The presentation ceremony was winded up by our Ravi Mystery in few minutes. Guess what our Robin won? An Hyundai i50 for bravely fighting and helping RCB successfully defeat MI. That ends our journey this year. Lets meet again next year with more action and entertainment.
I CAN BE RCB'S CHIEF BLOGGER BECAUSE..
I can be RCB's Chief Blogger because of TWO reasons. 1. I'm a diehard hard fanatic fan of RCB, Dravid and Mallya. 2. My experience in Blogging and my skills in it. That's it. I have only two points to complete this section of application . Anyways I have an Imaginary Interview here to justify my above two points. I saw the article of Chief Blogger post on RCB site before few days. Well I couldn't express my excitement. I couldn’t believe that the winner will be with RCB during CLT20 in South Africa. God!! Dravid, I am so freaking mad of him since my young age and Mallya, whom I adore and also aspire to be like him. Getting a chance to meet these great men is like winning a BILLION in Gambling. I used to Idolize Dravid when I used to play cricket matches in young age. Anyways after seeing this article started preparing for the interview. Well I entered the interview Hall on the D-Day. I was nervous to face it. I took some strength to answer the questions posted. My mind reminded me again and again the dream of being in RSA with stars. Interviewer : Come in, Take your seat. (Nervousness Continuous) Me : Thank You Sir. Int : Which post have you applied for? Me: Blogger. Chief Blogger. Int : Do you follow RCB website and Facebook pages? Me : Yeah there's not a single day I have not seen the face of RCB web site. Very active on RCB web site, facebook page and twitter profile. Int : Participated in any contest held on our Site? Me : Yeah * I participated in FFC2 * Won in a blogging contest during IPL- 2 which got me Fanatic Fan status and Match tickets for MI match. * Was runner up in First Phase of Review Writing Contest. I have submitted my certificate with my resume. I won the most valuable Dravid's Poster. * Participated in IDEA champ contest, Was one of the 30 fans who attended the FAN SUMMIT at ITC Gardenia. Got to see all RCB fans and Prince Siddhartha Mallya. * I also participated in "Know Thy Opponents" and "Design your Contest". In know thy opponents my Blog has been featured in CLT20 schedule column and my RCB Fans CL contest got a great response. * Now I have participated in FFC3 and in the process of getting Votes. Int : So you are a fanatic fan since half a year and you have shown your writing skills to RCBians? So how many Blogs have you written on RCB web site till now? And what's the response? Me : Around 16 Blogs. Yeah I do get good response. Many Comments etc. I actually blog less, Whatever I feel I can just put it as RCB's status on Facebook and twitter so that I can start new threads for discussion there. Int : You even have right to update Facebook and Twitter profile for RCB? Me : Yeah I almost update every day. I love to do it. I should thank Nidhi and Natasha for this opportunity. Int : Let me know some of your Blogging Characteristics, Be brief. Me : Blogging is one of the most Powerful tool in the present world. Blogging is more than an art. One need to be well aware of things he intends to write about. I have more than 20 to 25 blogs. Few of them are active and got good response and few went unnoticed. With all the experience in Blogging about cricket and other stuffs I Love I follow few things when I blog. * I wish to add photos, videos, podcasts and related links at last (At last because user shouldn't step out of my from my Blog) * I always try to use Simple Language. Blog is not a News Paper article to be written in professional English. * I always try to be brief. Readers doesn't have time to read everything you write. We as bloggers have to respect reader's time. When I really have very much to write in one Blog post, I use INDEXED Blogging i.e. I divide the Blog into pieces and give suitable head line for each segment. This makes the Blog look neat. You might have observed this on many sites. * I use questions. Using questions in middle of the Blog makes the reader think for a while. Also keeps the reader awake :D * Numbers and Statistics : Using numbers and statistics in a Blog makes the Blog much more cool. Don't you like it when you read some thing like "It was 111th SIX of the series", "It is 5th double century by sachin", "The 50 mistakes done by the captain in today's match" etc. Numbers always catches ones eye. So I always tend to grasp all the numbers related to the Blog and use them when necessary. * Emotions : As I said Blogging isn't something like a news paper article. We as Bloggers will carry the emotions of the reader. Adding the Ingredients like Love, Humor, etc. is very much necessary. I also like to compare a cricket sequence with other sequence. (Like I have done in the above report) * Title of the Blog. I must say deciding the Title of your Blog post is the most important step of Blogging. The response of readers to your Blog depends largely on your Title. If we use titles like An Exciting match. A good Innings. The title become so normal. But when you use Title with exclamations or questions. It will surely catch more eyes like "Did you see Jumbo's reaction at the end of the Game!!" (The reader does read till the end to know it) "Guess this RCB star who practiced all day to get back his form?" (Questioning is the best way to catch ones eye) I wish o create some curiosity in the "Title" to make the Blog Catchy. * One more fact of catchy title is it will go as a status of RCB's status on Facebook and Twitter. I surely keep this in mind before deciding the Title. * Linking Blogs. When you link one blog to other it catches more eyes. Int : Hmm good!!! If you are a Chief Blogger, Why do you want to add photos, Podcasts and other stuffs? Me : Actually many people doesn't like to read everything. Some people are very lazy to even read a small blog. So if I add funny Pictures or Topic related Photos with description wherever needed it will help catch those lazy people to read my Blog. Even our CMs have followed this in many Blogs. Int : Don't you think there is difference between just Blogging and Blogging about cricket in India. Me : Yeah sure. A cricket Blogger should at the least be aware of cricket. He should know about records, schedule, Fielding positions, Squads of all the teams participating. More than everything he should have passion towards the game. Int : Do you have that in you? Me : Yeah! I was really dedicated to play cricket and aspired to be a Cricketer few years back. I have experience playing cricket in our Brijesh Patel coaching camp for 3 years. Well because of some Injury and studies I had to continue my cricket passion in writing, instead of playing. Int : If you are selected. You will be the Chief Blogger till next FFC4. For about 6 to 8 months. Will you stay active even off the CLT20 season? Me : Sure sir. I have been active without that title of "Chief FF". I will continue to be active on the site even after the CLT20, At least to stay in touch with my fellow RCBians. Int : Who is your favorite player? Me : Dravid, I used to idolize him when I played cricket. I have madly collected his paper cuttings, posters etc. in my young age. Those stuffs are still present in my wardrobe Int : Thank You! We will let you know about the result of the interview on 11th August. Me : Thank You Sir! RCB Game for life.
