About me

Nicknamed 'Jumbo' for being unusually fast for a spinner, Anil Kumble is a right-arm leg spin bowler and a right-hand batsman. Kumble relies a lot on accuracy, subtle variations and bounce. He is currently the leading wicket-taker for India in both Tests and ODIs. With over 600 wickets in Tests, he is the third highest wicket taker behind Shane Warne and Muthiah Muralitharan. He is one of only two bowlers in Test history to have taken all 10 wickets in an innings. Kumble has also often lent his skill as a batsman in crunch situations like last year's tour of England, where Kumble scored his maiden Test century at The Oval. Grit and determination are synonymous with Kumble.

Winner of the Arjuna Award in 1995 and a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1996, Kumble was among the 16 cricketers short listed for the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the 20th Century, in 2000. A Padma Shri awardee in 2005, Kumble is among the most respected cricketers in the game. Kumble is armed with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
