Cheteshwar Pujara should be selected in the ODI/T20 Team
Verdict
Cheteshwar Pujara has shown that he can be a legitimate contender for an ODI spot with his knocks in the Challenger Trophy.
He however has to show a lot more variation in his scoring, his tempo before he makes it to the ODI team. The situation will not always demand a person to make 100 off 110, 100 could be required off 60 as well and he has to show that he can hit those knocks as well besides being an anchor. The Challenger Trophy was also played on flat tracks so we have to see how he performs on a green top, on a rank turner with bounce, on a slow low pitch to make a more accurate call on his ability.
He is also an average fielder, LOIs will expose this very cruelly so Pujara does have space for improvement. With those improvements handled, he could be the next Dravid not just in Tests, but also in ODIs.
“ Pujara's talent can be crucial in the shorter versions. ”
“ He will end up sitting on the bench. ”
Dhiraj Salian: Pujara showed us his capabilities in the test match against New Zealand and just recently he led Rest Of India to win the Irani Trophy. With 2 consecutive centuries in the Challenger Trophy at a very good strike rate he has indeed made a bold statement. Pujara can very easily adapt to all formats of the game as he has solid technique backing him up, he is also very shrewd and has finished many chases single-handedly, batting with the tail. His selection in the ODI team will boost his confidence and lend strength to the Indian middle order.
India has big hitters like Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni lower in the order while Virat can score quick too if there is a person who can play anchor at the other end. Pujara can play that role perfectly.

Tania Dey: Though he has shown immense promise in the recent past he still has to prove a lot. He can play anchor but he needs to show he has the ability to accelerate when required.
As of now the Indian team does not have an open slot as all the players have clicked well. With the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Manoj Tiwary, Ajinkya Rahane all sitting on the bench despite solid performances it's very difficult for Pujara to be included in the playing eleven. We even have Rohit Sharma sitting out when Sachin Tendulkar returns to the side. The Indian middle order looks stronger than ever with players like Kohli, Raina firing and Yuvraj Singh who has made a great comeback.
Pujara also doesn't add to the team's balance, the part time bowling is what has made the think tank lean towards all rounders such as Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja at different times. Till he adds a facet of big hitting and quick scoring to his batting or shows promise with the ball, it is hard to see Pujara justify a place in the national LOI team.

18 Oct 2012
pujara being one of the most experienced players in the ranji and the IPL,I guess should be given a chance,as he is well known to the conditions not only in India but also other countries..

AGAR PUJARA KO ROHIT JAISE CHANCE MILE TO HE CAN PROOVE HIS ABILITY.
15 Oct 2012
Of course he must be selected as he had good talent which he showed in tests i am sure he can give his best odis
11 Oct 2012
Yes..I think he should be selected for ODI'S and T20's beacuse he can play to the situation and he just showed in the Challenger trophy. He has a very good technique and in T20's he can play an anchor role with big-hitters can score some quick runs at the other end and it will boost his confidence as well
09 Oct 2012
Pujara's performance in recent times, has been consistently well..as we have seen in the test series against new zealand, this year, also in the Irani trophy,Challengers trophy
09 Oct 2012
Cheteshwar pujara has a proved a point when he hit the century against the new-zealand.be it any format of the game, without a solid middle order which can stand till the end it will not be easy for any team to fire.so if cheteshwar is in the line up then one can hit the bowlers out and he can maintain the run flow from the other side so that there is a balance
08 Oct 2012
oh yeah! he should play for indian team in ODI. He is soo talented!! and im sure he can play in any format!!

I am not sure if he is capable to take on the role of aggression in the shorter version of the game
23 Oct 2012
there are a lot of options in the odi's...he must seal his spot in the tests first
23 Oct 2012
India needs alrounders in one day and t20 i dont think so cheteshwar is ready for that kind of pressure
22 Oct 2012
Well, I go with Tania, because India needs all-rounders more thank only batsmen. India do have many batsmen but bowling part is crucial in the game and hence- a spinner or a perfect all-rounder does it.
22 Oct 2012
There are much more talented players there in RCB. Now with the inclusion of Chand, pujara might not get a chance at allll
22 Oct 2012
Pujara is a Test Player .. He may get a chance in ODIs but no chance in T20Is .. Even if he gets he will not be able to perform to the mark ! ! !

21 Oct 2012
he s gud maybe fa test matches but not for t20... instead manoj tiwari should get a chance..
21 Oct 2012
i completely agree that he will be definitely sitting on the bench....he is a guy with a cool temperament.i have never seen him being aggressive or excited on field...its like he is not interested only..not made for shorter versions...

20 Oct 2012
he proved he is fit for playin test by scoring a century and sum fifties.
similarly he can play ODI's.
T20 is not for him.
He can be the next laxman.
20 Oct 2012
He is not a Big Hitter nor the consistent performing player, I do agree, if he got selected in any format of game, he will just end up in warm the Bench. :)
18 Oct 2012
We have enough players who are talented and are warming the benches... no need for another one!
18 Oct 2012
its so damn true that he will end up no where but the bench. take manoj tiwary for ex.!
17 Oct 2012
I feel its still time for him to join the ODI as well as the T20 league..so rushing into it may not end up being the right decision
17 Oct 2012
EVERY BODY THINK HE IS A TEST PLAYER
IF HE IS SELECTED IN TEAM HE WILL BE NOT SELECTED IN PLAYING 11
SO ITS BETTER NOT TO PICK HIM
17 Oct 2012
you cant let anyone in just by his recoreds.. even rohit sharma has themm.. but his performance is....... ;)
16 Oct 2012
pujara is good in test , i've seen his batting against australia , he's really good
16 Oct 2012
no!! we have a good team for odi and t20!! first we must try out manoj tiwary
15 Oct 2012
I think Pujara should play tests for the time being, and perform for RCB more before he plays T20s/ODIs for India
15 Oct 2012
Pujara s definitely a talent, no doubts about it. But, for the moment his game is suited for the longer version.
15 Oct 2012
He Is Best For Test..i Say That he Must Be An Permanent Player in Test..But He Must Not Select For ODI/T20..he is awesome player i agree but He Rockzz At Test.. :) Indian Need A Test Player Now :)
14 Oct 2012
India have a very strong batting line up.
If there has to be a replacement I would choose M Tiwary instead of R Sharma
14 Oct 2012
then he will be struggling to play in the longer format so don't want him to play in shorter formats as there are already so many players sitting in the bench
12 Oct 2012
Cheteshwar Pujara is good in ODI's and do not rush him into T20I's. CP is a carbon copy to RD the great wall of Indian cricket who is from this wonderful city of Bengaluru. CP is a perfect player for Test Cricket and will be good in ODI's but rushing him in T20 does not make his temperament in Tests any good. CP to be selected in ODI's (For) and not (Against) T20's.
10 Oct 2012
look , i have compared his sytle and technique to dravid but he is not a t20 player . he has been tried as an anchor but has not done well
09 Oct 2012
he is not a t20 player
rcb wasted money on him
he is like dravid
good in test and odi at no.3
solid defence but cant score runs quickly
he should be traded
i am a rcb fan
we can get better players for that money
