India should concentrate on building a strong pool of bowlers
90.1 % Defend
9.9 % Attack
“ Poor bowling has cost Team India many a game ”
“ Hard knock life for bowlers in a batsman's world ”
Vidula Menge: For years, grooming of pure bowlers in the side, especially pacers, has been overlooked and that has often resulted in horrible losses in crucial matches. With a plethora of young and promising Indian bowlers waiting to explore international cricket, it is about time to pick and choose the best ones and shape them to the best of their ability. Batsmen alone do not win games, the bowlers are equally responsible towards their team's cause. India's current death bowling is the best example of a toothless attack that lacks the firepower. The bowling department needs a total revamp.
Monish Moorthy: It is unfair to hold the bowling line up solely responsible for losses in a team game. Bowling is highly physically demanding and bowlers all over the world face grave injuries through their career, trying hard to prove themselves on batting friendly pitches. Even top international bowlers have turned to jelly on tours of India thanks to such tracks. The effect on our upcoming bowlers, who learn their entire trade in such conditions is debilitating and they either come out limited and predictable or with variations but no discipline since getting batsmen out has become such a lottery for them. The bowling department does need a revamp but the rot lies everywhere from our domestic and age group systems to international cricket.
