Should Daniel Vettori open the bowling for RCB?

Verdict

Vettori is good in creating and sustaining pressure. Vettori is the kind of bowler who can reduce the opposition to 3/1 in his first over on most days and he can get them down to 2/2 on a good day. Also, the openers are not comfortable playing spinners. This will be an advantage for team RCB. But the new ball does not help spinners. Also, the team has good options among fast bowlers to open the bowling. After considering all the comments and votes, it will be a wise decision if Vettori opens bowling for the team

“ In the T20 scenario with field restrictions on and openers looking to use the pace of the new ball. ”
“ Vettori has been great in creating and sustaining pressure in the crucial middle overs. ”
Foram Gosrani: In the T20 scenario with field restrictions on and openers looking to use the pace of the new ball, an experienced spinner like Vettori will put the pressure back on the batsmen to hit the ball hard and take more risks. It gives RCB a chance to dominate right from the start.
Nidhi At Rcb: Vettori has been great in creating and sustaining pressure in the crucial middle overs. Also, fast bowlers are really effective with the new ball when the ball swings more. So for RCB, the right strategy would be to attack with fast bowlers, sustain and create pressure with spinners, and bring back the pacers in death overs.

spinners are a v good option in this format. we have seen ashwin and iqbal abdula open for their respective teams and have struck gold on occasions. also in absence of zaheer dan opening the bowling attack will surely work wonders.all the best!!!

Yaa Vettori must bowl first...In absence of ZAk, he is the only good option left 4 us...
24 Sep 2011
Vettori is a smart bowler.Kniws how to bowl in critical situations.
24 Sep 2011
Opening with Spin is like a gamble...and there's a lot of pressure on openers to give a big start...so there is a great chance for spinners to pick up the wickets.....with the likes of Daniel Vettori....your chances increase tremendously

Starting wid a spinner makes batsman to fumble !!

We are playing in Subcontinent pitches Dan is no more a rookie he is a pro go with him....
24 Sep 2011
nice
24 Sep 2011
due to less overs in t-20 there is more opertunity for a batsman to bat openly to fasters because they use their pace and also there is field restrictions so there should be an experienced bowler needed to open for bowling and that is i think daniel vettori..

an experienced spinner like vettori should open bowling according to me because it would put more pressure on the batsman.but i would agree with nidhi di too.Vettori had been in great pressure but it gives rcb a chance to predominate from beginning...
23 Sep 2011
it works...
23 Sep 2011
ya the field restrictions wil help the batsman to score easy....

RCB Rules.....
23 Sep 2011
I think it would be better to restrict runs from the beginning ..... If the batting team is in good form it would be difficult to restrict runs in the final over
23 Sep 2011
ok no problem. we want more experienced bowler. so it should be vettori or nannes
23 Sep 2011
vettori should open bowling
23 Sep 2011
rcb rokzzz
23 Sep 2011
daniel shud try open d bowling for may be 2 overs... n then he shud keep his remaining quota of bowlinf if d pressure raises... n i also feel that vettori shud try an expmnt to send a pinch hitter along with gayle to open d innings... :P
23 Sep 2011
I would like Zack to open the bowling spell because he takes early wickets and puts pressure on the opponent team
23 Sep 2011
Indian pitches are in favour of spinners so I would love to see Vettori opening. Watching him from years playing in New Zealand and outside New Zealand. He's just a class player.
23 Sep 2011
Indian pitchs are good for spinners thats y dhoni every time opening for spinner it good move for rcb team all the best for vetori
23 Sep 2011
yes Indian pichs is good spin blowers
23 Sep 2011
i'd play 5 spinners against any south african side...;)
23 Sep 2011
First over plays a crucial role in destroying the opponents confidence. I think Dan has the smartness to build the pressure on the batsmen. It will be the best way to build the pressure on.
23 Sep 2011
I don't think the bowling order should be set in stone. It's a sport and tactics change, you can't go in with one plan forever. I'm not saying Vettori *should* open the bowling, I'm saying he *could* if the conditions suited him, if the batsmen were known to be susceptible to spin or left arm slow bowling.

vettori comes in handy once the ball gets relatively old/worn-out so then he can turn the ball and can add an additional pressure along wit syed mohommed
26 Sep 2011
we cannot afford to do something like csk...they waste their spin in the start and get wacked in the middle overs....we got an awesome bowler named vetorri who is good for us puting pressure on the opposition in the middle overs...and we r not bad in fast bowlers opening too
26 Sep 2011
A spinner must not bowl with field restriction when the conditions aren't helping and also he can control run flow as he did in the 1st match of clt20 .. so he should'nt bowl in powerplay over
25 Sep 2011
he and syed are very crucial in controlling the mid-overs...let the pacers do their job in the first few overs...
25 Sep 2011
we have good pacers in nannes and arvind. morover vettori is economical in middle overs. instead we open bowling with syed mohamed
25 Sep 2011
well in da last match vettori bowled superb in middle overs and took two cruicial wickets, his economy is good. no need to open the bowling
25 Sep 2011
He is more economical in middlen slog overs
25 Sep 2011
vettori is useful in da middle overs
25 Sep 2011
A spinner must not bowl with field restriction when the conditions aren't helping. Any slog will give the batsman a boundary
24 Sep 2011
Most T20 matches are decided during the 11th and 14th over. Who better than Dan to suffocate and break the oppositions back. By the time they recover, match wil be over.
23 Sep 2011
only kumble can do it i think and its true because in second ipl final match kumble open the bowling and took the gilli wicket.........
23 Sep 2011
i think some times its works but some time not .i prefer fast bowler to boll
23 Sep 2011
In T20 cricket over number 9-13 will mostly decide the match... so Your front line bowler should bowl in that period..so in RCB Vettori is obvious choice.. so I prefer him to bowl in the middle of the innings...
23 Sep 2011
Can't take that as a general rule. However, when defending our big target, he can be useful. Experience counts too.
