Virat Kohli should captain the Indian ODI/T20 team.
Virat Kohli could make a fine captain, a World Cup trophy, even an U-19 cannot come if a player lacks nous. At the moment Dhoni is overworked, exhausted of ideas on how to use his resources and prefers to minimize risks on and off the field with defensive field settings and his choice of playing XIs. Of his challengers, Virender Sehwag looks a reluctant captain when things are not going his way. Gautam Gambhir is another contender whose form does not back him. Kohli is at his best playing attacking cricket and that is the kind of mindset that India could use right now. Blooding him as skipper in LOIs, even if to just give Dhoni a break from the crowded schedule would be a good idea. He would learn the demands of captaincy at the international level and also his interactions with the board, the selectors and the media would give him a view of the bigger picture. His current form gives him good credentials for the role as well. There is the danger that Kohli's batting might suffer but he has surpassed many harder challenges already, this will be another Test he will work hard to ace.

“ We need an aggressive captain and Virat is the obvious choice. ”
“ Captaincy will affect his performance. ”
Dhiraj Salian: After a lack-luster performance in the T20 World Cup India clearly needs a new leader in the shorter formats. Had the Indian side been led aggressively we could have made it to the semi finals. Kohli's temperament as a captain was established when he led the U-19 side to a world cup win. After a not so good start in the IPL 2012 when Virat Kohli took over as the captain of RCB, we were back in the reckoning. This is an ideal time to appoint him as the captain atleast in the shorter versions of
Tania Dey: Virat's batting has been consistent and captaincy would do nothing but ruin it. Even greats like Tendulkar were not successful as a leader. Also there are other contenders like Gautam Gambhir, who led his side to an emphatic win in the IPL, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh must be considered too. Although Virat would make a great future captain now is the time where he should sharpen his batting skills and win matches for India.

Instead of experimenting with new players, India should play its well set players in the series ahead of the World Cup.
