First Game Madness
If you woke up this morning with just one mantra on your lips.. That sounded a little like this..AAARRRRCCCEEEEEBBBBBBBEEEE.. Then you my friend are not alone. All over the country die hard RCB fans are gearing up for the first frontier of their long battle, while the men that matter sweat it out on the field, the fans are getting ready to support them like never before.
Everything you do today will become your routine for the rest of the season, however bizarre it may seem.. Take this for example a fellow RCBian I know happened to get the hiccups at the very start of an RCB game a few years ago..longer they went on.. more runs RCB scored… The moment the hiccups stopped..so did the RCB run machine… So for the rest of the season..every match that RCB played, she tried with all her might to induce hiccups!
Stories like these are common and I must admit I am as superstitious as they come- precisely for the duration of the IPL. From ensuring I wear the same ensemble for every RCB match including 5 inch red heels that wreak torture on my toes to praying fervently at the start of every over.. I find that the first match sets the precedence for the rituals I will follow for the rest of the season…
The funny thing is the cricketers are just as superstitious about their game! Abhimanyu Mithun the young fast bowler ensures that every year he stays in the same room at the Team Hotel... oh and that room has to have the number 25! Appana man of the match against RR last year makes sure that before he steps onto the field his Kit is neatly packed with everything in its dedicated placed and not a millimetre off (if you believe his team mates that’s the only time appi is ever organised).. maybe that’s why he is often the last out of the pavilion! Nearly half the team believes if they put their right pad on before their left pad they will do well..of course the other half believes the inverse is true!
Cricket wouldn’t be the same without these little superstitions… a belief that a greater power then us is active in the field of play! So if you happen to catch a glimpse of me with my eyes closed, talking to myself.. Join me in saying a prayer for the boys..They have the skill, they have the fire... All they need is your support and of course a bit of lady luck , but we’ve got that sorted, don’t we Divas?!
