Having set the junior cricket circuit on fire this season, Maharashtra under-19 opener Vijay Zol is now set to represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL V. The 17-year-old from Jalna, who smashed 1607 runs during the Cooch Behar Trophy, was signed up by the Bangalore franchise on Wednesday, turning an already successful season into a phenomenal one for the youngster. Zol initially came into the limelight after smashing an unbeaten 451 two months earlier, and it did seem inevitable that he would attract attention from the IPL franchises.

“We have signed Zol after looking at his performances for Maharashtra (U-19). He looks to be an ideal man for T20 cricket. What is good about him, apart from the ability to play big strokes, is his hunger for runs,” an RCB official said.

Big scores indeed, looking at some of Zol’s performances this season. The left-hander averaged 164 overall, and churned up 121 and 225 in the semifinal of the Cooch Behar in addition to scores of 90, 292, 176 and 82 earlier in the tournament. Zol, who idolises Virender Sehwag, has a penchant for dominating bowlers.

Syed Mohammed
Yes! He is already the member of the squad and is now, offered a fresh contract! A brief stats bout our shy-boy: Syed returned with excellent figures of 4-0-20-1 in the debut IPL match against KKR assisting in a fabulous win for RCB. As every bowler dreams of, he had Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar stumped in the playoff against MI in DLF IPL 2011 cruising RCB to the finals of DLF IPL 2011.

KP Appanna:
Born on 20th December 1988, in Kodagu, Karnataka, he is a left-arm slow bowler and bats right-handed. He is current Karnataka Ranji Trophy left arm spinner. He was also with RCB for the first 3 seasons of IPL.

Karun Nair
Born on December 6, 1991 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Karun is the budding young All-Rounder! His major teams are: India Under-19s, Karnataka Under-15s, Karnataka Under-19s.

Zol, who hails from Jalna in Maharashtra, says his idol is Virender Sehwag. He has a remarkable unbeaten 451 for Maharashtra U-19s against Assam U-19s in the match of the Cooch Behar Trophy in Nasik. It took him nearly 11 hours, faced 467 deliveries, and hit 53 boundaries along with two sixes in his outstanding innings, which was more than double his previous career-best score of 222. These numbers makes him an ideal choice for the already strong batting line-up of RCB.

We got Vinay and Murali in the recent auction. Considering four bowlers can make it to the playing 11 there is no chance for Dirk Nannes.. Think our bowlers will be 1. Zaheer Khan 2.Vinay Kumar 3. Vettori 4. Aravind/Mithu/Syed 5.Muthai Muralidharan.. I think we should drop Dirk and should use the money to get good all rounder!!!!
