ditto the bandaged jaw is etched in everyone’s mind I’m sure. Apart from that his 6-12 @ Kolkata ,the 10 wicket haul @ Kotla and his maiden Test 100
and also his stint as RCB captain. There are lots to pen down…so I havent stuck to ‘the most memorable’
I would say his century in engalnd!!
No player could score a century with the blade during the 3 match series except anil.
The bandaged play shows his grit and determination. But he was in pain so i dont consider it as a momorable moment for him.
I simply cannot forget the bandaged jaw incident! The man had guts to come out and do it for India. I cannot forget the joy he has every time he take a wicket, be it of the opening batsmen or that of the tail ender! He’s been a team man all his life, and records just sort of happened!
Anil bowling with that terrible bandage wrapped around his face and forehead. Most players would simply walk off the field even if their presence could have helped the team win even if they suffer from a muscle pull or fatigue, but, Anil continued bowling and he got a wicket too.
Nothing beats that when I think about ‘spirit of cricket’ or ‘most memorable thing about AK’.
The test match at kotla where he took 10 wickets in a innings….
His partnership with Javagal Srinath at Bangalore for a world cup match against Pakistan and India won.
Indian cricket would never forget his captain courageous course in Australia tour. the way he handled every controversy surrounding indian cricket fetched good name and fame to the whole team.
The Jaw incident is what comes to mind immideately. I thought Kumble had a new lease of life in that 03-04 series down under where he bowled very well. It was a bit like the phoenix. Nevertherless, I’d also agree on the 100 he made in England and the interview he had with the ESPN team right after Sydney Gate. Basically I thought Jumbo showed the world that Nice Guys finish first too
Well the bandage incident against the windies and the 10/74. What I remember best about Anil is his humility. He wore his laurels very lightly and still does as a matter of fact . Well one can also never forget his “Only one team played in the spirit of the game ” statement during Sidney gate.
