A round up of tournaments in 2012
It was an action packed 2012. RCB finished 5th in IPL. Team india had relatively bad year. However there were lot of very good performances to reflect upon ....
Whilst there is lot to look forward to in the new year, we will look back at 2012 and see how RCB/World Cricket fared.
Big Tournaments in 2012
IPL 5
RCB had a mixed IPL tournament. Start to the IPL5 was average, but through great team effort and brilliant individual performances RCBians kept going. Most notable was AB's breathtaking cameo against DC in bangalore and Gayle's consistent power hitting especially against Kings XI and DD. Last match loss to DC caused our exit, however the match against CSK where we failed to defend 208 might have been the turning point. Wishing RCB the best in IPL6, fans are already eager to see RCB do well in the upcoming season.
KKR won the IPL 5 after defeating CSK. It was huge celebrations after the match and in kolkata which marked a great end to IPL5
T20 World Cup
T20 WC started in the emerald island of Srilanka. The tournament was a shorter one and the format unusual and most talked about by the critics. There was no carry over of points in league stages and even teams that lost one of 3 matches (Like India) in the super 8's exited out of the tournament.
Once again RCBian Gayle did WI proud with amazing power hitting. Gangnum style dance and unique caribbean celebrations was a sight to see. Shane watson also had a amazing run of form and it felt that aussies depended too much on the allrounder, this showed in there semifinal loss. Srilankans once again choked in the finals of a big tournament.
India Vs England Test Series
Much awaited hype of Ind V Eng test series started as a revenge series. After india's 4-0 loss in 2011, this was a much awaited series and was supposed to bring back indian test team to winning ways.
It all started in ahmedbad with indian batting and bowling doing well, however english team showed the fight in the 2nd innings. With dhoni calling for spinning pitches, 4-0 series win for the hosts grew stronger. But in cricket things turn upside-down faster. All went wrong in the next 2 tests, english spinners bowlerd way better than indians, indian batting lost its sheen. Overall a 2-1 drubbing at the end of the series was one of the lowlights for a indian team in the last decade.
Other Important Series
** South Africa had a amazing year in test match cricket. There fighting spirit and great consistency in Australia and England keeps them in the top spot of ICC test rankings.
** India down under in the ODI's had a roller coaster ride. Chasing 300+ within 36 over was a highlight, otherwise SL played well enough to give aussies the run for there money, however OZ won the tri series.
** India continued there bilateral ODI dominance against SL, one of the very few highlights for team india.
** Asia Cup was won by pakistan. Indians lost to Bangladesh and Srilanka's inconsistent run kept them out of the finals.
** Lesser teams like Ireland and Zim slided. Afghanistan showed spark and Bangladesh had a good ODI series victory over WI recently.
** India Vs Pak face off in T20 Series in last week of 2012. A chance for indian team to bring few smiles to the fans.
A unpredictable yet exciting year of 2012 for cricket is coming to an end. All of us are looking forward to Auctions in Feb 2013 and IPL6, we are eagerly waiting to watch Red and Gold Team in action. See you all at the stadium during IPL 6.
