Gayle slammed his 14th test 100 on Friday against New Zealand. He also reached his 34th Test half century on this very day,which is the 3rd day of the first test match in Antigua.
After a hiatus of 18 months from Test cricket,Chris Gayle made his comeback in this format,memorable by smashing a 198 ball 150 on the 3rd day of the first match.His stupendous 150 included 17 boundaries and 4,over boundaries.This century from Gayle was also his 3rd against New Zealand.
Kieran Powell(134) also cracked a century along with his fellow opener Chris Gayle.This was Powell’s maiden century. In return to New Zealand’s 351,Gayle & Powell by putting a double century ,cracked a total of 284 which gave them a 91 run lead.
At lunch,the home side was at unbeaten with Gayle(146) & Powell in the pitch.After returning from lunch ,Gayle hit one boundary which took him to reach his 14th test 100.
There was a delay in between the match due to a slight downpour but it didn’t lasted more than 20 minutes and then the match resumed.
This partnership of Gayle and Powell was also the highest partnership for any wicket since December 2010 by WI.This is after 13 long years ,that both WI openers had hit a ton ,after 1999.It was hit by Sherwin Campbell and Adrian Griffith in 1999 in Hamilton.
Altogether,at the close WI were at 442 for 6 leading New Zealand by 91 runs.
