A wake up call

This Champions trophy was a wake up call for Dhoni and his men.

Australia has just managed to sneak into the semifinals and India are out of the Champions trophy whether they now win the encounter against the Windies doesn’t matter.

At the end of the day India lost one match against Pakistan. They looked a little lackluster against the Aussies in whatever cricket was played till the weather intervened. A team that is missing its pace spearhead and two of its most destructive batsmen failed in the one and half matches that it played.

Ishant Sharma needs to be handled with utmost care if India want to harbour any thoughts of becoming the best Test team in the world. Zaheer and Ishant will be the instrumental factors and the selectors will have to rotate the fast bowlers and not play them too much in the 20-20’s and Odi’s. They need to bring more bowlers in the fold and need to rotate them well.

Ishant seems to be a shadow of the past and the team really needs to back him. What I found bemusing was he played two matches at the Centurion a relatively flat wicket was dropped in the match that was to be played at the Wanderer’s the one pitch where there is really some good assistance for fast bowlers against a weak West Indies line up.

Ishant was replaced by Abhishek Nayar… and Dhoni bowled seam up !!!!!!

What message are you sending to Ishant ????

I am sorry to say this but completely unexplainable thinking. Is Dhoni going to be bowling seam in future matches ??? Is Abhishek Nayar an batting all rounder a replacement for Ishant ????

Another really disappointing thing was at the 25 over mark against the West Indies at 87 for 5 we have Harbhajan bowling with no slip and only 4 men in the ring… Amit Mishra a leggie is bowling in tandem with him and there is no short leg or no aggressive fielder.

I would really like to ask Dhoni …

If you will not attack at 87/5 with your two wicket taking bowlers when will you ????

Cricket is a simple game, when you bowl think wickets, when you bat think runs. Instead of over analysis India needs to simply wake up and do the simple things well. Dhoni needs to think of wickets and not of the 50 overs.

We are blessed with some brilliant individual talents but we need to wake up and be ruthless. If Dhoni and his men will be fair with themselves they will agree they have not looked like a team aspiring to be the best in the world. It is time for some real soul searching the guys have the talent its only a little more application, a little more determination and a HELL lot more INTENSITY required.

This should be a wake up call as there is a lot of cricket ahead of us and the top spot in world cricket is up for grabs… !!!!!

indeed a wake up call we need to give some young player the role of senior players. Particularly Ishant he needs to take the responsibility in Zaheer's absence

@ Rakesh - Youngsters need to be handled with care... Ishant is Indian crickets biggest hope if they want to be world number one and win tests abroad... handle him with care... !!

Agree with you Hitchy - What message are we sending when we select Nayar ahead of Ishant.

But why are our fast bowlers like jelly? Every promising bowler comes down with an injury - be it Munaf or Zaheer or Nehra and now Ishant. Something's really wrong somewhere.

And the other problem with India is that they've always been slow starters. And in a almost knock out kinda series, a slow start is unaffordable.

But yeah, there is a little bad luck here as well like Yuvaraj being out due to injury and the game lost to rain. But even otherwise, consistency is becoming a problem and as you said, a Hell lot more intensity required.
