An Important Lesson
So close yet so far, a feeling every true RCBian experienced last season. Last season, we looked unbeatable at times. Teams feared the "Gayle Storm" whereas many batsmen didn't have the answer to Muralitharan and Vettori's spin attack. Even the opposition and their fans couldn't help but admire Chris Gayle taking the center stage, hitting sixes with such ease, leaving the bowlers helpless. While many backed us to go all the way, we stumbled right in the end. A horrible experience, no doubt, but certainly a learning one.
The problem we faced last season was balance. RCB had the best batting line-up but our bowlers didn't deliver as expected. Old players like Dirk Nannes have left but they are well replaced by new ones. Murali Kartik has been brought in this season adding to our beautiful collection of spin attack in Vettori and Muralitharan. He brings in experience and a brilliant option which offers something different in the mix. While Zaheer hasn't been in the best of form, RP Singh has been drafted in by the Royal Challengers. A very shrewd buy in this transfer window as he still ranks third in the top wicket takers with an impressive 74 wicket haul. He hasn't featured for the national side for some time now, giving him the perfect opportunity to show what he offers and spark a revival. Alongwith RP, Jaydev Unadkat and Pankaj Singh have bolstered the bowling pace attack whereas Moises Henriques, Ravi Rampaul, Dan Christian and Christopher Barnwell have definitely bulked up our squad this season.
The team is being led by Virat Kohli, the man we can all bank on to bring out the best in himself and the team. The passion he brings on the field is second to none and while he might be young, he certainly is capable enough to lead us to the victory which has eluded us last season.
Faith in the team's capability and to deliver when the time comes is the biggest and the most important lesson we've learnt last season. We start our season against the Mighty Mumbai Indians at our own den. I hope they're ready, because Royal Challengers certainly are. Bring it on!
