Building NewGen India for Test Cricket
Indian Test Cricket is in a transition phase. This is the time to try some youngsters, especially in the fast bowling department.
From the time i had planned to write the blog on this topic few things have changed,
a. VVS Laxman got retired
b. U19 Indian Team won the WC
VVS was a amazing player, through his decade plus career he helped india win from many a precarious situations. However all good things come to end one day, it is hard to believe Rahul and Laxman didnt have a farewell match. Perhaps that shows greatness of these two icons.
What Next?
While we think its just the batting which needs immediate attention, we need bowlers as well to win matches overseas. Zaheer is a leader but he is 33, so we need to find good pace bowlers to win consistently in Aus, Eng and SA ..
Our batting needs to build the strong middle order which was our fortress to success in tests. It is good to give more chances to people like Pujara, Raina, Rahane etc. I seriously hope Yuvraj comes back to test cricket as well.
Long Season
This is a long season at home, we are playing many test matches, this is the chance for selectors to try more youngsters. When we had Sourav, VVS, Rahul there was hardly any room to break into the same. Now it is time to get youngsters more chances, which will in turn create lot of healthy competition within the team. Sachin Tendulkar's presence would be very beneficial as he guides youngsters so well ..
U19 Winning Indian team
It augurs well for future of Indian Cricket to see U19 colts winning the cup. If we carefully see previous victories (in 2000 and 2008) we got some great players to play for the country and that time proved to be very good for indian cricket. 2003 WC Finals, 2007 T20 WC victory and many more ..
But the million dollar question is can few of them get chances in the indian team. Well they can be tried in T20/ODI formats to start with. Being with the players they dreamed to be with will only increasing there confidence.
