Challenger of the Day- Roelof Van Der Merwe

The South African all-rounder on what's playing on his iPod, his favourite Indian ground and how he responded to an on-field marriage proposal.

Up, close and personal with an RCBian every day!

Fans, fire away the quirky questions in the comments section and I'll get the best ones to be answered by Roelof within 72 hours!

What do you listen to on the team bus rides between the hotel and the stadium?

"How do you do" by Roxette and "3 A.M." by Matchbox Twenty. They're my favourites!

Favourite bowling performance?

3-37 against Australia in my second ODI in the series at home last year. Got Hussey, Clarke and Johnson. What fun!

Batsman you love bowling to

Nos. 9, 10 and 11 (Laughs).  And bowling to Sachin is not quite ideal!

Indian cricketer you admire most

Anil Kumble. I guess it's easier to look up to to someone from a similar art (spinner) and boy does Anil have stature. He's just awesome.

Craziest thing a fan's done to/for you

Proposed to me in the middle of a cricket match! This girl in Pretoria screamed, "Roelof, will you marry me" when I was fielding. I looked back, shrugged and said, "No, sorry". She laughed!

Indian ground you enjoy playing on the most

Bangalore! And I'm not saying it only because it's our home ground. It's enclosed so the sound stays in and it's just awesome inside.

Message for the fans before tomorrow's game

The atmosphere for last night's game was totally made by you guys. And we players love it when it's noisy and buzzing! Looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow!

@KunJan: Done. Will ask him about the wild swing and the tip from Anil Kumble.

ask him,
"What would he have become if not a cricketer?"
and
"What is the craziest thing he ever did on and off the field?"

Merwe and Jumbo are two spinners in one mould for RCB. Merwe obviously doesn't possess Kumble's talent but he tries his best to make up for it with a fierce competitiveness. The intensity is so crackling that you almost fear his veins would burst and when he stares at the batsman or at a fielder, he resembles Kumble. The champions league Diwali clash against Delhi, was one of his recent best :) hope he fires the other line-ups similarly this season.

Aneesh put this to Roelfy: What's with the wild swing of the bat every time u walk in to bat? You can do wonders for the team with your hitting, Just apply yourself better.
2. How does it feel to be bowling along side Anil Kumble? Getting a lot to learn? What's the best thing you've picked?
3. I think you can be the difference that RCB needs to winning the tournament. Keep your calm, Do what you do best, and win it for us.
Here's a one liner for you:
VD MERWE: THE NUT, Did you know peanuts are ingredients of a dynamite? :)

Will be looking forward to meeting you when u play in chennai! All the best for tonights match!
