Dont sweep Gayle! step out to Malinga
Just sharing the DOs and DONTs against MI.
Well, i know there is a expert RCB management to deal with strategies and a common fan like me would know lesser than them. But so fanatic i m about RCB n loyal to it all seasons that i enjoy sharing my thinking ![]()
Maybe a good thing Gayle got out early last game and we could see that our batting is well capable. But what is Malinga for MI, Gayle is for RCB n we always want him to give terrific starts. The kind of player he is, him lasting upto facing 25-30 balls and he will set RCB in a great position. But as i predicted b4 & Ashwin, Bollinger showed it, Gayle can be made uncomfortable n he was in both recent matches against CSK. So MI insted have Bhajji n Malinga insted n Gayle better act smart n stick to shots he is good at or defent stoutly. Bhajji's got a effective quick arm ball... So keep away playing the sweep! he is slow at it n could well give a top edge, LBW or bowled. Avoid leaving crease against him. he does not really need that to hoist 6s wih the power he has! A normal straight defense n smashing the short, over pitched ball will help him play out Bhajji. With Malinga, he is better equiped. he is big, tall n powerfull to laucnh the pull shots for his short balls and he should repeatedly step out in his usual fashion to make Malinga think over bowling his sharp yorkers! McCullum proved how this tactic unsettled Malinga. Munaf, Pollard, Dhaval Kulkarni are much easily manageble for RCB batsmen.
Now the bowling, and this area needs certain big improvments. First, out with Mithun, in with Syed Mohammad. This move itself is more likely to save 10 runs
I wish our 3 main bowlers to share their 12 overs better. I prefer to have 7 overs of them, 2 each of Zaheer n Aravind and 3 of Vettori as the last 7 overs i.e from 14-20th. Zaheer and Aravind can have 2 over spell opening. If got a great start with the ball like last CSk match, bring in Gayle, Kohli n finish the 5th bowler's overs as soon as possible n reserve our best for the crucial death overs. Ofcourse, people like Blizzard, Sachin, Rohit, Rayadu, Pollard can change gears and start big hitting any time and plans should be changed. But i believe this mentioned tactic could save lot more runs at the end. Pollard's weakness in spinners, and Vettori's end overs might do the trick. Zaheer though taken for runs in his last over, is a smart skilled bowler n can hope to be miserly next match.
A great match awaited! :D
