Gayle Storm Review..!! Check it out..!!
At the Chinnaswamy stadium on Friday, the Challengers rode on Gayle’s
breathtaking 48-ball 107 (10x4, 9x6) to amass their highest total of the
season, 205 for six, before restricting their rivals to a paltry 120
for nine in easily their most command all-round show yet. Gayle, who
became the first batsman to score two centuries in a single IPL, was
equally effective with the ball, returning rich figures of three for 21
to deservedly emerge man of the match.
With this win, Challengers
rose to fourth position with 11 points after nine matches while Kings
XI remained stuck on six points after eight ties.
Needing over
10 runs from the beginning, Kings XI lost skipper Adam Gilchrist – run
out off a direct hit from Asad Pathan – off the first ball of the chase
while Abhshek Nayar and Paul Valthaty returned to the hut by the fifth
over. With an impressive S Arvind (4/14) removing Shaun Marsh, Kings
XI’s hopes went up in smoke.
When Royal Challengers, inserted by
Kings XI, batted, it was only the ball that went up in the air and often
well out of the fielders’ reach. Given RCB’s three-match winning streak
prior to Friday’s win, a bumper holiday crowd was expected but
surprisingly, the stadium was barely half-full. That was no dampener for
Gayle as he unleashed a brutal assault.
It’s not often that you
pull off a maiden to Gayle, but Ryan Harris managed the mini-feat as the
right-arm quick kept the big West Indian quiet. The left-hander’s
swing-and-miss game lasted a little longer than to his liking as Praveen
Kumar gave away just one run in his second over. It was, however, a
sort of lull before the storm that left the visitors’ attack in complete
daze.
Gayle swatted Harris in the next over for the first of his
nine sixes before pulling him over mid-wicket to begin the massacre.
Tillakaratne Dilshan then pulled and drove Harris to the fence in the
same over as Kings XI, who had done well to concede just 17 runs in the
first three overs, leaked 21 in the fourth to set the tempo for the
innings. It was a mere appetiser before the main course.
Ryan
McLaren gave the breakthrough in his first over when Dilshan miscued his
hoick but Gayle appeared little perturbed. If anything, the 31-year-old
only grew doubly dangerous as Praveen found much to his chagrin when he
replaced a profligate Harris. Gayle welcomed the former RCB paceman
back into the attack by lifting him over the roof of the stadium.
The
next ball stayed within the stadium but the result was the same. He
then flicked and drove the paceman to collect 22 runs as big overs
became more of a norm than the exception. He showed little affection for
paceman Love Ablish, taking 39 runs from his three overs with Virat
Kohli too joining the party.
A whopping 111 came for the second
wicket in just 59 balls with Kohli (27, 31b, 4x4) and Gayle had scored
84 off them, facing just 32 balls. Dropped on 103, he got out the next
ball but by that time, he had done enough damage. With AB de Villiers
providing the final flourish (27, 14b, 2x4, 2x6), RCB had the match in
their pocket even before Kings XI began their hunt.
