India-Sri Lanka Match ends up in a thrilling tie at the Adelaide
Vinay Kumar Heroics with the ball continued as he bowled yet another brilliant spell of 3-46, as well as Gambhir-Dhoni magic with the bat as the India-Sri Lanka match ended in a tie.
India lost the toss as they once again fielded first in the match
against Sri Lanka. There were a couple of changes from both the sides as
Sehwag had a back spasm and Zaheer Khan had a problem with his right calf
hence their replacements were Sachin Tendulkar and Irfan Pathan. Sri
Lanka also had two changes as Perera and Hearth came into the side. Vinay Kumar opened the bowling and came steaming in the very first over in the 2nd ball he got the wicket of Tharanga as the ball went to the gloves of skipper Dhoni. The confidence grew up in the filed after this wicket and Pathan came after in to bowl and he also troubled the batsmen all way long. Tillakaratne Dilshan looked to settle things down along with Sangakkara but Vinay and Pathan bowled excellent line and length not giving any room except that 1 Six being hit by Tillakaratne Dilshan as he fell for 16 runs. Chandimal continued his excellent form but Sangakkara played a sloggy shot to Ashwin and got out for 31.Jayawardene and Chandimal built on and added a good 94 runs partnership as Jayawardene fell for 43 as Vinay Kumar came in for his second spell and got him out and Chandimal got out at 81. The lower order of Lanka could not do much as Vinay Kumar did not let Kulasekara play freely as he does and got his wicket too ending with 3 wickets in the match except Senanayake made quick 22 runs to help the team reach 236 runs.
Gambhir opened the batting this time with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin's presence at the crease was short-lived as he fell for 15 and Virat Kohli too got out to a good ball for 15 runs. Things were not going right as even Rohit was run out to a brilliant throw by Jayawardene. Gambhir was trying to play safe to help India bail out of trouble as he kept losing his partners at the other end as soon even Raina departed for 8. It was only when Dhoni joined Gambhir the duo looked in good touch yet again and took India closer to target finding boundaries and rotating strikes.
Gambhir missed his 100 yet again for a 2nd consecutive time as he did so in last one too and this time it was by 9 runs as he was run out to a good throw, but as Dhoni was playing on with the Indian tail. Ashwin supported him well after Jadeja failed out and Pathan's Six was the saving grace of the game towards the end of the no ball as soon after that Pathan was run out sacrifying his wicket for Dhoni. India needed 14 runs of 10 balls as captain cool was batting along with Vinay Kumar. Vinay did well to give strike to Dhoni and hung in out in the middle but unfortunately got out leaving Dhoni alone to finish things of at the last ball as 4 was needed to win.
Malinga bowled fast-full and wide length and Dhoni reached out to it and practically on one leg scooped it over extra cover only to find Senanayake at sweeper cover who touched the ball to stop it from going it for four even as Kulasekara threw the ball, Dhoni had run 3 and the match ended all but in a tie. It was a fantastic game of cricket and yet another thriller of a match to have wittnessed.
