India Start Asia Cup with a win!

A Winning start for India at the Asia cup, India facing the home team Bangladesh. The highlight was, Both the captains scored centuries.

Match 2 of the on going Asia cup, played between Bangladesh Vs India. The sub continent pitches and India are known to perform well than expected. The toss, India won and chose to field first and this is an usual scene. Virat Kohli leading the squad in a major tournament for the very first time, earlier he had lead India during the Zimbabwe tour and matches against West Indies. India had to play without MSD and DK was called in as a replacement at the last moment and S.K.Raina was not included due to his poor run. This team was young, a new middle order that saw Ambati, Rahane and Dinesh Karthik.

After winning the toss and electing to field, it was a good start by the Indian bowlers and Shami dismissed Shamsur Rahman in the 6th over and soon Mominul Haque was stumped by Dinesh Karthik, the very first ball Ashwin came into bowl. The home team had lost both their openers. The home team needed something special to over come  India’s spin twin and they have been quite consistent in the sub continent pitches. Anamul Haque and the Bangladeshi captain Mushfiqur Rahim put on 133 for the third wicket. The duo, played attacking cricket, yet on the other hand Jadeja was hard to pick and Ashwin went for runs. Anamul Haque targeted the youngster Varun Aaron and he went for plenty. It was only during the power play, Anamul Haque lost his wicket for a well made 77 and Aaron got the much needed breakthrough for India.Once India got the breakthrough, wickets kept falling at the other end. Mushfiqur Rahim looked composed and was approaching towards a century before he was hit by a beamer bowled by Aaron, the bowler was barred from bowling after he had bowled two beamers and the batsman signalled for a medical help straight away. Once he was cleared nothing serious, the home team captain continued to bat and went on to score his second ODI ton and with his ton, Bangladesh scored 279 for the loss of 7 wickets. Shami picked up 4/50 in his 10 and was expensive during the end overs. Mushfiqur Rahim top scored the Bangladeshi Innings with 113 ball 117.

Needing 280 to win, Indian openers did not provide a good start and the first three overs India just scored a run. Time passed by, Under the lights the pitch showed the character of variable bounce and the chase certainly looked difficult. The openers some how managed to put on a 50 run partnership and Dhawan was the first wicket to fell after scoring 28 and soon followed by Rohit Sharma for 21. Virat Kohli and Rahane were at the middle, Virat is a master when it comes to chase and he knows how to construct an innings and at the other end Rahane started off slowly. A short ball from Rubel Hossain, the batsman played that expertly, arching back and just ramping the short ball towards third man for a six and that showed the class of Rahane who was all set for a big partnership with the Indian captain. The duo picked up singles and two’s, the occasional boundaries were on always. The Bangladeshi bowlers found hard to find their line and length. They made look the chase so easy and stroked the ball on every part of the ground. Virat Kohli was also carrying the extra responsibility of being India’s captain and once he scored a 50 he looked much more confident and his conversion rate was so good and the stats showed India won matches when ever Virat scored a century while chasing. On the other hand, Rahane was playing the second fiddle and he was giving as much as strike to Virat Kohli. The power play overs taken and it was the 38th over, Mashrafe Mortaza had the ball, Virat Kohli gets to his 19th ODI century with a dab to third man,he did that in style, and this was his 13th century while chasing. Rahane at the 40th over, glanced one to the fine leg boundary and that was Rahane’s 4th half century. The last 10 overs India needed just 63 and they had 8 more wickets in hand. Virat was gently stroking the ball even after the century he was in no hurry to finish the game soon and Rahane too looked calm and composed. 44th over saw the duo scoring 200 runs together in this match and ensuring a win for India, the duo had completely taken away the game from Bangladesh. End of 45 overs saw Virat Kohli losing his wicket for 136,a yorker from Rubel Hossain and off stump took a beating. Virat had almost taken India to a win. Rayudu comes in when India needed 12 more to win. Rahane (73) played a typical chip shot, gets it off the toe end and caught at long on and some music at the stands, India need 9 more. Dinesh KARTHIK and Ambati Rayudu completed the run chase. India win!

Virat Kohli gets the Man of the match for the match winning knock,136 of 122 balls.

Kohli is a perfect batsman, good run scorer but not a good captain as Dhoni.
