India Vs England - Is it a revenge Test match series or just another one?
The much awaited Test Series is going to begin as India will want to defeat England in India 4-0 after they were defeated in England 4-0.
The Pataudi Trophy:- (India in England 2011) :-
What began as a series of hopes for Indian Test Team during
the 2011 Tour of England it ended as a nightmare to forget. Zaheer Khan’s
absence when not even half way through the Lord’s Test Match gave a 1st
blow to the team as India had lost their strike bowler due to injury during the
1st Test Match and he could not take any further part in the series.
Praveen Kumar gave a little cheer to the blowing line up as he ended with a 5
wicket haul in the 1st innings. The spinners were not getting turn
as captain M.S.Dhoni ended up bowling a bit. A Double century from Kevin
Pietersen added fuel to the fire but Rahul Dravid’s 103 not out was the
highlight of the Indian batting at Lord’s. Sehwag’s absence at the top order
exposed the opening stand as Mukund failed to grab his opportunity.
Gautam Gambhir did not take part in the 2nd &
4th Test Test as again “The Wall” bravely came forward to open up
and yet again scored a brilliant 117 and 146 not out respectively in his name. After
missing out on Zaheer Khan India went on to lose Harbhajan Singh their lead
spinner in the tour as he was out due to injury as they had to play with Amit
Mishra and things went all wrong for them. Many things happened during the
series as injury worries, lack of form, unsettled playing 11 and England
pitches did all harm to the Indian Test team and to end the tour in misery the
3rd and 4th Test Match were lost heavily by the Indian
team as they ended up getting innings defeat. The only stand-out performer with
the bat was Rahul Dravid with 3 centuries in his name as others played out
battling in patches. England had humiliated Indian Team by defeating them
4-NIL. They packed their kits and flew back to India, not wanting to think yet
again of the tour and it was time to move forward.
England in India 2012-13:- Tit for Tat !
A year has passed away and England have arrived in India to
play 4 Test matches. A lot has happened during the last 1 year and the 2 greats
of India batting line-up have hung up their boots and retired from the game of
cricket. Rahul Dravid, who had a very good series in England and VVS Laxman bided
adieu to the game of cricket at the International level. They have certainly
left a big loop hole in the middle order where they served very well in last
many years and but of course its going to be hard to fill in their gaps easily.
Youngsters like Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli have stepped in since then
have have replaced the retired duo. Both Pujara and Kohli have lived upto the expectations
as well as R.Ashwin’s inclusion in the Test Cricket has sidelined Harbhajan
Singh as the leading spinner who is now fighting for his place in the playing
11. Indian cricket looks quite in safe hand as Suresh Raina has been dropped as
Yuvraj Singh has made a comeback.
Revenge Series ? :-
Most of them have been talking about this series as “Revenge
Series”. Suresh Raina missing from the
Test Team and Yuvaraj Singh both want India to defeat England 4-0. Virat Kohli
made a statement that there was no harm in taking home advantage and that India
had all rights to make turning tracks for the visitors, why not when all the
home team take advantage of their home conditions then everyone can do it.
Zahher Khan is all set to give in his best after being out of the England Tour
and all eyes will be on Sachin Tendulkar as many will wait for his to perform
at his best. Harbhajan Singh had been left out of the Test and ODI arena since
last 1 year and he will be hoping to find a place in the playing 11 ahead of
As far as England are concerned, Kevin Pietersen will be the
most happy man to have made a come back finally in the England team after being
left out due to series of controversies which has now been sorted out. England
batsmen should expect big turner’s during the series even though according to
them Indian spin is not a threat anymore and India will want to defeat England
RCBians, do give your views on it that Is this a “Revenge
Series” or it is “Just Another One”. Its time for some real game of cricket,
its Time for some of the best series of Test Matches anyone would have ever witnessed.
Most importantly, its time for Cricket. Let the action begin.
