Kingfisher and Royal Challenge Contest Winners 'challenge' RCB in a friendly!
---------Six sixes in an over by skipper Aditya 'dot' the Contest Winners' innings in their cricket match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Yet RCB prove more than a handful---------------
Friday afternoon, 20th May 2011 saw a momentous occasion for fans – 11 lucky winners of a contest took part in a cricket match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. These lucky fans were selected from two separate contests by Royal Challenge and Kingfisher. The former held a Facebook competition with trivia questions whereas the latter picked fans that had travelled on their airline. A dream come true, the 11 fortuitous men trooped in in milky whites, while their RCB counterparts arrived in their customary team jerseys.
It was 7-over match during which, Aditya, the captain of the contest winners led from the front by scoring 68 out of a total of 90 runs. One over off Jonathan Vandiar was smote for 6 sixes, therefore, 36 runs. Would a run rate of over 12 per over be daunting for the Royall Challengers Bangalore?
After a somewhat studied start, this champion side too showed its mite. Asad Pathan scored a quickfire 36 to put his side in the reckoning. Ryan Ninan and Bhareth Narayan then showed the lads how to smack the ball in the available gaps as they added a few more. Finally, Mayank Agrawal finished the chase off the very last ball by hooking the ball for a six when one run was required. As if to bring on the challenge, the 20-year old Karnataka lad had played out two previous balls to pull the fielders in before taking advantage of the gaps created.
Anyway, at the end of the day, the winner was cricket. Royal Challenge and its associated brands have been known to be fan centric. Even Royal Challengers Bangalore selects three fan members as Web TV crew every season, whether it is the Indian Premier League or the Champions League.
Aditya of the contest winners’ team bagged the man of the match award during the cricket match, a return ticket for two on Kingfisher Airlines to a domestic destination of choice.
Victory or not the smiling 11 were only too happy to be flown in to Bengaluru to meet their stars. After a quick presentation ceremony the lot gleefully disbanded as the Challengers went about their regular practice.
