Kohli’s Maginficent Ton gives big win to India as Dilshan’s 160 goes in vain
India went on the chase a mammoth 321 runs inside 40 overs to gain bonus points to their hopes alive for finals as Kohli went on to score his 1st ODI ton in Australia as Dilshan's 160 went in vain.
Before the start of the match, India has only one thing n mind to win with a bonus point and in 40 overs if chasing. Dhoni won the toss for the 1st time in CB Series and he rightly chose to chase 1st saying that it was easy to know the target for it to be achieved in 40 overs. The only change in the Indian team was that Zaheer Khan came back in the side as Irfan Pathan was injured after the collision with Raina.
The Dilshan-Sangakkara stand:-
Little did India know what was in store for them even as Jayawardene departed RCB recruit Tillakaratne Dilshan was joined by Sangakkara. Sri Lanka got of too a solid start and both these genius took it on from there. Tillakaratne Dilshan timed the ball to a beauty every time and he found the boundaries with ease. Sangakkara was beginning to find his touch and was looking to convert his score this time to a big one. The partnership was flourishing as India was left clueless. It was a batting beauty as Tillakaratne Dilshan went on to score a 100 followed by Sangakkara's ton. Sangakkara got out for 105 of 87 balls in the 44th over after a record breaking stand for about 200 runs with RCBian Tillakaratne Dilshan which included 8 fours and 2 sixes . On the other hand Tillakaratne Dilshan went on and on and no one could stop him as he ended up scoring 160 not out of 165 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. Sri Lanka gave India a massive target of 321 runs which they had to chase in 40 overs.
The Run Chase begins:-
Sachin-Sehwag combination came out to open the innings. From the very first over they had only 1 motto in mind i.e. to maintain a good Run Rate of about 8 rpo and they did just that. Scoring boundaries of nearly every over and maintaining Run Rate of 9 rpo. Sehwag was whacking away but got out making 30 of just 16 balls with 5 fours and a six as Tillakaratne Dilshan took the catch. Sachin on the other hand was joined by Gambhir and a partnership was being looked to build up. Sachin was playing Malinga easily and scoring boundaries freely as Gambhir was playing second fiddle by rotating the strike. Sachin got to to a yorker ball by Malinga after a well made 39 of 30 balls.
The magic of Kohli-Gambhir-Raina:-
Virat Kohli walked in to bat along with Gambhir and from thereon there was no stopping them. Gambhir was scoring boundaries and Virat Kohli played cautiously in the start as the Run Rate was maintained. Both of them even rotated the strikes well. The Gambhir-Kohli partnership lasted for about 115 runs as Gambhir was run out in the 27.3 overs with score of 201 runs on the board. Raina came into the crease as Virat Kohli looked to hit out to the fence to help the required rate to come down. Virat Kohli was batting a beauty and he was playing all the bowlers fearlessly as no one could do any harm to him. Raina was also scoring with ease in the company of Virat Kohli as India was looking good to reach the target inside 40 overs.
In the 35th over Virat Kohli faced Malinga and made a meal out of him. Reaching his 100 in this over, the 1st ball Virat Kohli faced he took 2 runs and then the rest of the over was like a bad dream for Malinga. Virat Kohli scored Six of the 2nd ball and 4 boundaries making it 24 runs in the over. Virat Kohli went on to make his first 100 in Australia in ODI's. After a series of faliure, Raina grabbed this opportunity finding fours and sixes and ran hard between the wickets. Little did anyone would have though that India would finish the match before 40 overs itself as Virat Kohli went after Malinga yet again and in the 37th over itself with the help of two boundaries yet again Virat Kohli gave India an incredible win over Sri Lanka as Suresh Raina was unbeaten at 40 from 24 balls with 3 fours and a six as the win gave India a chance to qualify for the finals if Australia defeats Sri Lanka in the next game. It was a true collective team work by Team India.
It was a day to cheer about for all RCB fans as 2 RCBians went on to make big hundreds.
Virat Kohli was awarded the Man of the Match as India went on to register a big win against Sri Lanka at Hobart.
