Levi Crushes Kiwi
The protean opener smashed his way into the record books for the fastest ton in a Int. T20 with 117* off 45 balls helping A.B and co. to level the T20 series against the Kiwis.
South African opener Richard Levi set two world
records, smashing 13 sixes and a fastest Twenty20 International hundred
against New Zealand.
The right-handed opener, who was unsold at the February 4, 2012's Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Bangalore, set South Africans on the victory path with a 117 not out off just 51 balls. Besides 13 sixes, he also scored five fours.
However , Pune warriors have a big chance of picking Levi at the auction later this month.
This
power-hitting from Levi tonight might attract IPL team owners'
attention. Levi's base price at the auction was $50,000 and he has done
more than enough to raise his pricing.
With Levi's big hitting on small boundaries, South Africa coasted to victory by eight wickets.
South Africa chased down hosts' 173 quite comfortably. South Africa
ended with 174/2 in 16 overs to level the three-match series.
Levi, 24, made his international debut in the opening match of the series on Friday in Wellington. The hosts had won that match.
Levi's ton was also the fastest in T20 international history. His 100 came off just 45 balls.
"It was good fun, every shot we seemed to play came off, AB (De Villiers)kept me calm. The LS boundary was quite short, so I targeted that. I have no idea about the
records, the time just went unbelievably quickly," said Levi after
accepting the Man-of-the-Match award.
WI opener
Chris Gayle had owned the previous record for most sixes in a Twenty20
international with 10, while Gayle and Brendon McCullum had shared the
record for fastest century. Both had achieved the feat in 50 balls.
NZ skipper Brendon McCullum said: "Richard played an absolutely unbelievable
innings, he was too good tonight and didn't allow us to bowl well."
