Maiden Test Century - Pujara

After coming back to the Indian test side, Pujara has come up with a brilliant century against the kiwis at Hyderabad.

India Vs New Zealand, first test played at :
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. India winning the toss and opting to bat, with no Dravid and Laxman at the middle order India has to manage with the youngsters Pujara, Raina and Virat Kohli. With the Openers Gambhir and Sehwag giving a brisk start for India and when the boundaries were coming at every over, Gambhir edged one to the keeper and India lost it’s first wicket in the morning session of Day-1 and the left hander from delhi was out for 22. This wicket brought the comeback man Cheteshwar Pujara at No.3, Sehwag was in full flow dealing with boundaries and he made a quick fire 47 of just 41 balls before he too edged one to the slip fielder Guptill. The crowd made a huge noise and that sensed the arrival of the master batsmen Sachin Tendulkar. Both Pujara and Sachin played well till lunch without losing any wickets and India were 97/2 at the lunch. Pujara was too cautious with his shots and the youngster from Gujarat made sure he was providing the support as the no.3 batsmen replacing Rahul Dravid. Post Lunch India did start off well, but Boult got the big fish and the Middle stump pushed back, a beauty from Boult to dismiss Tendulkar. Then Joined Virat Kohli, the duo added more than 100 runs, with both the batsmen going past their half centuries. Virat Kohli continued his good form and made a patient 58 before he got out when he was looking to cut the ball and guptill again taking the catch at the second slip, more like Sehwag’s wicket. Pujara was playing so well at the other end and he was on 95 when Kohli lost his wicket and with a boundary Pujara was just one short of his maiden test century and with a with a gentle flick down to fine leg of Franklin’s bowling, the first test century came up. Pujara deserved and it was a well compiled innings of a man who came back strongly from Injuries. Soon after Pujara’s century Raina lost his wicket for just 3 runs. The Indian captain joined Pujara and the duo made sure they did not lose any more wickets until  stumps. Dhoni and Pujara remained unbeaten with the scores 29 and 119 respectively. The only highlight of the day-1 was Pujara’s century and hope to carry his Innings and keep providing the support at no.3 from where Dravid left.

In the Mean Time : The India U-19 team won the semi finals against the Kiwis and booked a final encounter with the Australians. India, making a modest total of 209, the Indian bowlers did bowl well and the Kiwis just managed to score a total of 200/9 while chasing. Baba Aparajith adjudged man of the match.
