The match-fixing and spot fixing scandal has taken the cricketing world by storm. There has been calls for banning Pakistan out of International cricket.
Once again comes the allegations of match-fixing, and no surprises, once again it is Pakistan. We all know Pakistan as the most unpredictable team. But is fixing the real reason for their unpredictability? They pull off an extra-ordinary win when the chips are really down and fall like a pack of cards when only God could have prevented them from winning.
Pakistan and match-mixing go a long way back. Shane Watson has gone a step ahead to say that he doubts whether fixing is in culture of Pakistan. What is more surprising is that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not serves out a harsh punishment to act as a deterrent in future.
It is no secret that sub-continent is the hub of bookies. No doubt those players from sub-continent will always be on the radar of bookies. With the number of matches played being so high, these bookies need not look at any other occupation except betting. But in the end it is the duty of players and administrators to keep this game a gentlemen's game.
Match-Fixing is never a right thing to happen. Everyone is loser when a match is fixed. The team which has accepted money never wants to win, the opposite team doesn't know they are going to win and their efforts are be in vain. Now that there are allegations of Sydney Test being fixed, it is more disappointing for Australia rather than Pakistan because Australia always played to win.
But the main question in this entire episode after so much of drama is who needs whom? Can ICC do away with banning Pakistan so that they learn their lessons and get their acts right? ICC cannot do that because it will further reduce the count of test playing nations. FIFA has 208 nations affiliated with it. International Baseball Federation (IBAF) has 112 nations affiliated with it. In this comparison, ICC has failed drastically in introduction and development of Cricket in non-test playing nations. USA, China, Afghanisthan, Scotland, Ireland have shown interest in the game, but haven't taken it to a next level. As a result, such is a situation that in spite of Pakistan being implicated in match-fixing regularly, all you can do is hope it will be clean-player of the game one day!
@ Allen
We all know that Pakistanis probably don't play the cleanest form of cricket. I guess there was a reason for India opting not to play any matches in Sharjah. Bob woolmer's case is as good as forgotten by the investigators and it was not a natural death according to me also. But would banning Pakistan help Cricket?
What happened to Bob Woolmer case? I don't think he died of Natural Death. What happened when Asif was caught of Drugs? Why wasn't the Ban implemented properly?
Imran Khan told Pakistani's won't hurt the cricketers but Sri Lanka was targeted.. Finally all he had to say is, the attackers wasn't Pakistani's WOW..
What happened to that case? Why aren't anyone bothered?
@ maddy-dravid: Hope we could have done that. But one of most happy moment for me in cricket is when India beats Pakistan. I do not want to miss such a moment.
@ prithviraj-chiyyodu: my friend, if it was'nt for bucks, we would not have BCCI, IPL, CL T20, and the list goes on!
The thing is nobody needs pakistan even india or icc or kashmir:):):)
They can't even maintain gentlemanship in sports then gow can we expect them in defence:):)
@ Maddydravid
After repeated instances of match-fixing by Pakistani players, no one would want them. But how many competitive team would be left without them?
Well the number of team not actually matters man.The number of quality team only counts. So i would still be against pakistan. We dont want pakistan playing cricket anymore.
