Proteas defeats the Sri Lankans,as Team work takes them to 1-2 in the series
In the 5 match ODI series after having gone 2-0 against Sri Lanka, the South Africans were desperate for a win in the 3rd one.
Batting 1st and under pressure, the proteas openers went cheaply and Duminy at no.3 could not do much too making 23.
AB De Villiers took up the responsibility as a captain and batsman and decided to bat all way long. A few 30-40 odd runs partnerships with others were not helpful for AB De Villiers as the South Africans were reduced down to 100-5 in just 30 overs. The last 20 overs was crucial for the team to get to a respectable total and AB De Villiers batted well throughout. He finally found a partner to company him for long in the form of Miller. AB De Villiers made a classy 47 runs in 72 balls before he got out in the 40th over as he and Miller did wonderful job for the team.
The finishing touch was given by Miller as he went on to make a flashy 85 runs of 72 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours in his name. AB De Villiers and Miller’s innings helped the Porteas to get to a respectable total of 223 runs on the board. Tillakaratne Dilshan bowled a tidy spell of 10-0-39-0.
Sri Lanka began their chase but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The top 3 fell for single digit whereas Sangakkara and Mahela fell without troubling the scorers. All this was possible for Proteas due to lethal bowling by Tsotsobe who finished with a brilliant spell of 4-22. Behardien was another bowler who surprised the Lankans picking up 3 wickets with his part time spin as he took the crucial wicket of the dangerous looking T.Perera who blasted his way to 65 runs in just 49 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes in his name. Rest of the batting struggled as the Proteas went on to win the 3rd ODI by 56 runs.
