RCB Mumbai Meetup- Of B’day Bash & SA tales
The RCB Mumbai fan club met over this weekend (Oct 16th,
2010) to celebrate the birthdays of two of their most revered players, Jacques
Kallis & skipper Anil Kumble. Also sharing my experiences with the team as
the chief Blogger during the CLT20, was a part of the agenda. But a few last
minute inclusions, just added to the fun. Sumanto, the RCB media manager was in
town and gladly agreed to join us fans
for the meet. And Anjali, a friend who was with us in SA too joined in.
Choosing a laidback beachside coffeeshop for the weekend
meetup, served as a perfect setup for the fun filled evening. Pooja
Techkchandani (FFC 2 participant from Mumbai) , Mahesh Sharma & Ronak Vora
(newest inclusion in the RCB fan club and actually a KKR convert) were the
first to make it to the venue. Ushma, Parvathy and I then joined them and
called Sumanto and Anjali over. Our former community manager Ankit and two fans
from Pune too joined us later.
All set to cut the B’day cake, we were interrupted by a text
message from none other than the B’day boy… Anil Kumble. Sumanto to our
surprise was so overwhelmed by the gesture of few ardent RCB fans celebrating
their player’s b’day, that he thought of letting the skipper know about it. He
did that and how! ‘The RCB fan club in
Mumbai has met to celebrate your b’day.’ he texted Kumble.
Prompt comes the reply: ‘I’m
in a function right now. Glad to know that. Thank everyone on my behalf.
And it certainly made our meetup worthwhile!
After the yummy cake cutting session, it was time for some
SA tales. Having spent over 3 weeks in South Africa with our men in Red &
Gold..it was time to relive all the ‘good times’. Sumanto, Anjali and I just
couldn’t stop raving about the team and our experiences with each one of them. All
the inside dope and CLT20 discussion later, we were discussing what seems to be
on every fan’s mind now..The Auction & player Retention. Playing owners for
a while, picking our teams and few permutations and combinations later..what
hit us hard was that the same bunch of boys won’t don the ‘red n gold’ jerseys
again. Come January and we’ll have a brand new RCB team, albeit a few players
retained. So are we fans game for the change..only time will tell!
P.S. : The pictures of the meetup clicked by Ushma will be uploaded soon.
