RCB player in the making: Suchit Jagadeesh
In a country obsessed with cricket, everybody aspires to play for India. One such talentMysore is Suchit Jagadeesh, a very talented left-arm orthodox bowler. Only 17 years of age, Suchit is already creating ripples in cricketing circles with his brilliant performances for the state. In the recently held Shafi Darashah trophy, Suchit, playing for KSCA XI took the world of cricket by storm with bowling figures of 9/98 in the first innings. After that tournament, Suchit has been a regular feature of the Karnataka Cricket team. Suchit is studying at the TTL college of Management.
I managed to interview him. Here are some excerpts:
ME: First of all, tell us Suchit, When did you start playing cricket?
Suchith: I first started playing cricket at the age of 9.
ME: Who is your role model in the game of cricket?
Suchit: Daniel Vettori.
ME: How do you balance cricket with education? Do you think education is important even for a professional sportsperson?
Suchit: Right now, I am giving Cricket higher priority. However, I do think that education is very important for sportspersons.
ME:How has your experience with Karnataka team been so far?
Suchit: It was good. I learnt a lot of things from the senior players in the team. I learnt from them, how to work hard and be focused all the time.
ME: Now that Sunil Joshi is no longer a part of the Karnataka team having become the coach of the Hyderabad team, do you think that you can replace him given the fact that both of your are left-arm orthodox bowlers? Do you think you achieve the success he has achieved?
Suchit: It is not about replacing anybody but the effort you put in and giving it 100% each time you step out on the field and the ability to perform consistently at that level. It is important not to think about the future. I am concentrating on the present and giving it my 100%.
ME: There is a raging debate over Test matches-versus-T20. Which do you prefer playing?
Suchit: I prefer playing 4-day games.
ME: It is every cricketer's ambition to play for the Indian cricket team and I am sure, your's too. In how many years time do you see yourself in the Indian team?
Suchit: I'm taking it Step-by-step. I look to cross each and every hurdle and take success step-by-step to reach that stage.
ME: You picked 9/98 in an innings in the Shafi Darashah trophy and that catapulted you into the spotlight. What was your reaction then? Is it the best performance so far of your cricketing career?
Suchit: Yes, it is definitely the best performance of my career. The feeling was just great and word's can't explain how I felt.
ME:You are still very young and have a very long career ahead of you. We usually don't see 17 year olds in the state squad but you have done it. How do you react to your success?
Suchit: It's just amazing and I am looking forward to live up to the expectations.
ME: How has the support from your parents been?
Suchit: Right from childhood, my parents have been my motivational factors.
