The Road Ahead To The Semis
I see the chat-box abuzz with lots of confusion about RCB’s next matches.
Here are the facts. For now, you might want to read just the bold points.
1. RCB remains C1 despite not finishing on top of the group C.
2. RCB now goes in League B which comprises of 4 teams C1, C2, D1 and D2. C1 is RCB, C2 is Cape Cobra, D1 is Delhi Daredevils and D2 in all probability should be Victoria Bushrangers unless they lose their match against Wayamba Elevens today by a very huge margin.
3. Being a C1 team, we play against D2 on 15.10.2009 in Bangalore.
4. Being a C1 team, we play against D1 (which is Delhi Daredevils) on 17.09.2009 in Bangalore.
5. RCB is in the League stage with zero points while Cape Cobra has two points. The net run-rate they carry to the League would be only from the match they played against each other.
6. Depending on who would be D2, the points of D1 and D2 would be determined. Most likely scenario is that Victoria will qualify and hence they go in with two points while Delhi Daredevils go in with zero points.
7. The League stage is like a round-robin stage with the difference being that the matches between C1-C2 and D1-D2 in the group stage would be taken into account and hence there won’t be a rematch between us and Cape Cobra in the League stage.
8. We must finish in the top two team of the league to reach the semis. We should win both the matches against the D teams. The two wins should more or less ensure out entry into the semis. However it is possible that despite winning both of our matches, run-rate can come into picture. E.g. Victoria, Cobra & RCB, all three can be tied on 4 points each. But the probability of this happening is quite low.
On the other hand, there is a mathematical possibility of us qualifying after winning only one match. E.g. Cape Cobra can have 6 points while the other three teams can tie on 2 points each. Net run-rate would come into picture here. Again, chances of this happening are low too.
In case you don’t want to bother about all of the above, let me put it simply as :
If we win our next two matches, then in all likelihood we would qualify for the semi-finals.

It clearly indicates we are C1, Cape Cobras are C2.
What would have happened if the third team beat any of the top 2 teams? The third team would have replaced the team in the spot of the knocked out team i.e. If OV won against the RCB and knocked us out, they would have become C1 for the next stage.
The points table is to only decide who goes through, but the positions c1, c2, c3 remain the same!
This is similar to what was in world cup 2007 and World T20!

RCB is known to fire when under pressure, we have won almost all do or die games.. Go RCB!
With Kallis not fully fit and Steyn not there... that is one weak spot.. The better teams with better batsmen will exploit it... !! Against the Indian players the spin will also not be such a big threat... !! Plus Bangalore is a beauty of a batting wicket ...
The batting still so far looks settled... with boucher and Dravid still not utilised... they need to be given oppurtunities before the knock outs again...
