Off late there have been people comparing Dravid with Sehwag and others but here is a big full stop to all those stuffs.
AVERAGE DOES NOT REFLECT A PLAYER'S VALUE:
This blog is meant for all Dravid fans and few people like Holmes.People say that Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman in the world.Dravid follows him.But few people think Sehwag comes ahead of Dravid. But recently a 'scientic study' was conducted by two economists. It is been said that on CONSISTENCY bases Rahul Dravid stands 4th overall and 1st among Indians. He is followed by Sachin Tendulkar at 5th,Sunil Gavaskar at 11th,Virender Sehwag at 12th and Vinod Kambli at 13th.In another ranking based on career contribution to the team score,Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar share the 5th place. They both emerge as Indias best in this list. Then comes Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag at 6th place followed by Vinod Kambli at 8th place. The economists Vani K Booroah and John E Manghan have taken enough pain and found this TRUTH.The stand out argument is"even a player scores 100 in a total of 600,it does not add much value to the team.Sachin and Sehwag have this mostly. But when a team scores say 200 runs, then a batsman scoring 70 or 80 is valued more.and this is where our WALL-Rahul Dravid stands.I am a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag but now its time for me to show the hard way to all Anti-dravid fans. There is also a very famous saying that "If Dravid was a part of any other team say Australia or any other team he would have been valued more than any one".The only batsman who can be more valued than Dravid can be Sir Donald Bradman.
Now its time for Holmes and others to stop making graphs and waste their precious time. The world knows the truth now. This day 16th August must be celebrated as WORLD TRUTH DAY.
wonderful article........... being a Dravidian, I agree with every word... please read my views on it too..
http://blog.abhinav.com/rahul-dravid-–-the-selfless-man-who-goes-unnoticed/
@dibo:exactly mate...its unfortunate Dravid is an indian.if he was playing for a different country the world would have rated him next to Donald Bradman. These are not my words. These are the words of great people and millions of people who agreed to it.
@dravia- even if sehwag does very well in thos months or set any record n improved tremendously, i dont want to argue with u about it… some other ppl on site
Actually I totally agree with you buddy.I'm a new member of this fan club. and i see that u are an ardent fan of Dravid's. me too. Some people in this world dont get the fame they deserve. Rahul Dravid falls in this category
@HOLMES:Hey fanatic i’ll not respond to your comments till clt20 getting over…....
we will have a seperate team like(holmes+cnp+..) and(me+maddy+...) and we can have a common judge like ragunath sir and then we can have a healthy debate…it’s very ugly now….
Everything is only after clt20….
there are others factors we can have discussion like clt20 team or main 11 or auction, etc…
after ipl4 auction we can’t have that discussion and we can discuss your debate any time…so only i’m telling…please understand…
If we postpone certain issues the time will tell the result,it’s true…
@vignesh- Everybody does so many things that it not necessary but interesting! There wud nevr be debates about sports greats if such attitude is adopted. It seems ugly now but i was expecting a very knowledgeble n sensible debate...
@dravia- thr r many days for CL n enuf to talk about other issues. Evrybody will cheer rcb whn it gets started. Dont wory. Can u please ans y the need to pause ur debate?
Why even bother to compare to comapre Dravid-Sehwag-Sachin? Life has enough complexities already and there are so many other things to worry about in this world.
Can't we just sit back and enjoy the fantastic performances from this terrific trio?!
@dravia:geth line machi...i am leaving here.i wont respond to this topic unless ANYONE posts something really funny.SO LETS ALL STOP AND CHEER FOR RCB NOW...GO RCB GO RCB GO GO GO...
@maddy-My blog was titled 'sehwag-2nd best likely Indian batsman after Sachin'...Its not a firm statement but a high possiblity of that happning by the way he is going. Look a his records, y isnt it possible he will not beat dravid's records? does that mean dravid is any less? Sachin broke Gavaskar's record for most centuries so that would mean Gavaskar's value reduced? Y shud u start ASSUMING that a player has done/can do better than Dravid means Dravid's value is doubted?
@all:right everyone started ah?....ok carry on.....i know very well where it is going to end.Between(HOLMES+CNP)AND(ME+MADDY)....
I'M requesting everyone please please leave this topic....we can discuss it after clt20...
now it's time to cheer our team..
But it will be a great dishonour to compare dravid with anyone....DRAVID WILL HAVE HIS OWN PLACE IN WORLD CRICKET...
@maddy:mamu leave it da....let it be pause..
@ Govind : That's exactly what you shouldn't be doing if you are a Dravid lover and believe in his performances. Those, who have followed cricket know his value and those, who don't know his value, wouldn't care for what you write.
Secondly, there was no Dravid vs Sehwag war or any need for these posts. It is you who by responding foolishly on a blog from Holmes, has started this unnecessary clogging of space. Write sensible stuff boy! Write about RD's performances, but, to remember them, not to try and say "Hey, please believe me, Rahul is great! Listen to me Rahul is great!"
WEll id compleatly agree wid Wizard prince!!! i dont think der is any need for u to prove anything!!! i mean well RAGHU sirs blogs r amazingly nice n the articles do depict quite a lot. one thing v must learn to understand is to love the game. c Maddy every1 has their opinion n v gotta respect that!!! no1 criticized that!!! so all id say is enjoy the game n lets live in harmony with evry1s views!! :):) i think the more v listen the more v learn so lets keep on listening n understanding!!!
I really don’t understand why we are always after scoring rate in a test match. With 80 SR and 50 Avg, if we consider 6 batsman in an innings you can score 300 (on a given day only 2 batsman may score 300 or may 3 or 4, ultimately the team score is same) from 375 balls and the tail enders would manage let’s say 50 from 100. So your innings score is 400 from 475 balls and in 2 innings 800 from 950. Take Dravid style, with 40 SR and 50 Avg. In this case the innings score is 400 from 850 and in 2 innings 800 from 1700 balls. Combining both sides they play 2650 balls in a test match. 5 days with 90 overs are 2700 balls. So there are 50 balls left and that would decide the match. This would definitely favor Dravid side because they are not bothered playing few more deliveries. In a Test match, Sehwag and Dravid would have the impact in a completely different way. Both are gr8 and both styles work, then why say Sehwag is better than Sachin or Dravid. I would say Sehwag is gr8 if he manages 80 SR with 80 avg. With 50 avg, SR 80 OR 40, there is not much of a difference you can make in a test match. I would still prefer watching Dravid and Laxman play tests as that is the only way you should play tests with a good technique and stylish stroke play. In ODI’s, Sehwag and Dravid had different roles to play, and both have done a good job. I prefer Sehwag/Yuvraj for T20’s. Hope Dravid will do a better a job in CLT20 next month.
Have a lil patience to understand the logic.
We jump up and down about so many stats and try to compare players over generations but do these players really care ??
To have loyality is on a player is one thing and to impress upon others to follow is totally another. For me Rahul Dravid's value to the Indian team cannot be expressed in words or cannot be weighed in terms of numbers but that doesnt make me tell my friends or the world that he is the best player ever :)
So lets not fight over such reports/numbers they will keep coming as long as the Legend of these legends stays :) Instead lets soak up the great mind boggling articles of Raghunath and give it up for him !!!
I never went by just strk.rate or avg. I went by the impact of the runs in winning matches. But as per a blog of Raghunath that showd both r too close when at equivalent innings, than srtk.rate carries importance...Even by going b this study, ur blog is so bias n hardly puts any end to issue of me favouring Sehwag
@Raghunath- Ya, i reconsider my suggestion to u Sir. I told u in haste of recomending it. There have been such studies b4 with different conclusions that r baffling. 1 point that clearly shows that their method misleads as Kamble being in that list!
@ Maddy, with this blog you have really made fun of yourself honestly. I thought of you as a great Dravid fanatic and by writing a blog like this, you have not just once again dishonored the great batsman, but, your own love for him.
As a matter of fact, if there is any method by which some idiot can prove that Vinod Kambli can be anywhere among the top batsmen of the day, then that person needs an asylum.
Dude gimme a break...i am a big fan of Sehwag. Now i am jumping on seeing Virus batting,i am very depressed he could not get his 100 though. This blog is meant to say that you cannot just write off Rahul Dravid. You mentioned about average but it clearly says that average is not a criteria. And coming to your criteria strike-rate...well lol no where that term has been used...well so...hehe....
