With yesterday's win Chennai evened the scores this IPL after having been beaten in Bangalore earlier this tournament [SCORECARD]. The match was the perfect T20 match and had everything right except the result. Watching the match live and wearing Royal Challenger's jersey, one couldn't help but feel intimidated with the wave of yellow around the stadium.
The match got of to bad start with Manish going early. Robin and Kallis maintained a steady head and helped push the run rate down, but soon after Robin fell and Virat took his place. Things were going great until a middle order collapse in the 15th over with Virat and Kallis (54) getting out. Then White and Pietersen landed some big blows to bring the score to 161, but on a flat deck with short boundaries, 164 was never going to be enough. I feel that the team was 10-15 runs short.
The bowling took plenty of heat with Murali Vijay going all out attack at the start. He clubbed Praveen for 3 sixes in an over and a four to follow suit. The match looked well and truly out of the visitor's hand when Kumble struck bringing back the match slowly. Kallis, Steyn, and Vinay Kumar bowled well, and got RC back into the match. Kevin Pietersen was hit to all parts of the park but he finally came up with a wicket. I feel maybe White should have bowled, the other's did well to pull back the game. In the end, with good tight bowling, the match drew to a close end and almost a victory for RC.
It must be noted that there was a seven ball over in the match. This certainly gives cricket statisticians something to quarrel about.
The fielding for the first time in the tournament was normal with a few misfields and missed opportunities. All in all Chennai were the deserving winner of the match, and with two losses stringed together now, it's time RC rethink their strategy and plans. They are still at a comfortable position and look like a good team, and I have no doubt who is going to lift this year's IPL trophy.
