Gayle and Marlon Samuels put on a 129 partnership for the third wicket and this partnership made sure the home team made a score over 300 and in the mean time Chris Gayle brought his 20th ODI century and this was a sign of a man who has been in great form and on the other hand Marlon Samuels too brought up his century ever since 2006. For the visitors Tim Southee was the pick of the bowler,taking three wickets for 55 runs in his 10 overs, Southee took three of the five wickets that felt for West Indies. Earlier Chris Gayle hammered 9 huge six’s and 8 four’s in his match winning knock of 125 of just 107 balls with a strike rate of 116. This century proved, Gayle is not an T-20 expert alone, but he can prove his class in 50 over match as well. The home team was in a commanding position after making 315 in 50 overs.
In reply, wanting 316 to win, Kiwis did struggle a bit, but some supportive innings from Guptill, team’s captain Kane Williamson and Watling, the visitors managed to score 260, all out in 47 overs. West Indies lead the ODI series 2-0
