The partnerships that took the Game Away!
This was another close game from the Royal Challengers, held their nerves and pulled of a victory in style against the Deccan Chargers.
Indian Premier League - 50th match played between Royal Challengers and the Deccan Chargers at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. RCB winning the toss and electing to field with our usual captain Dan Vettori sitting out and making way for the champion off spinner Murali and there were also some changes in the team’s playing eleven that saw Mithun,Prasanth Parameswaran and Syed Mohammad getting a chance to play in front of their home crowd,The bowlers did struggle a bit to find their line and length correct and the DC batsmen did pick every bowler except Murali and they managed to score 181 for the fall of just two wickets in their twenty overs. The top order did perform really well for the visitors.
The RCB openers Gayle/DILSHAN gave a start to their team and it was Dilshan who took the charge early on and was scoring runs quickly and at the other end Gayle was a bit unusual this time scoring singles and was giving strike to his fellow partner Dilshan. Dilshan was getting boundaries now and then and Deccan bowlers did find difficult to get their first wicket. The duo went on to add 91 in just 10.4 overs, Gayle was first to fell after hitting a huge six over long on and Anand Rajan it was, who gave their team a break through in the 11 over, the opening partnership of 91 runs laid a solid platform for the home chasing 182,soon followed by the wicket of the captain Virat Kohli the home team struggled a bit, but Dilshan looked quite solid again. The home team did lose two quick wickets of Asad Pathan and the set batsmen Dilshan and the scorecard showed 117/4 and the run rate was going up all the time and at the other hand the pressure was building up as well, but we had the young Mayank Agarwal at the crease who played a little cameo scoring 18 runs of just 6 balls with two sixes and a four to his name, but he wasn’t able to continue his good touch and again it was in the hands of the magician Ab.D Villiers who has been a consistent run getter for the RCB and a master of handling the pressure situations keeping his cool. The south African batsmen stood tall and showed his class. The start of the 18th over, 39 runs required from 18 balls and AB’s fireworks all over the Chinnaswamy Stadium started, and the Bowler was none other than his team mate Dale Steyn, that over went for 23 runs with couple of six’s and couple of four’s, the home team was right back into the game with the crowd going crazy. The last two overs needed just 16 runs and AB was again the strike batsmen to face Anand Rajan, the very first ball went for a four, and the next ball for a six and the magician took a single of the third ball scoring 15 of the first three balls, the winning run was again a boundary hit by our spinner Syed Mohammad and that moment the Chinnaswamy went wild and it was a huge win for the Royal Challengers in front of their home crowd. This 6th wicket partnership scored 42 runs in just 1.5 overs and that took the game away from the opposition.
