Rohit Sharma has been called in as a reserve for Laxman for the upcoming test against South Africia. V.V.S. Laxman is not 100% fit and Rohit Sharma has been roped in as a reserve. Rohit has scored making 527 at 87.83 in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai this season and will be hoping to make it back to the international circuit, but is he the right choice?
Dinesh Karthik is another young cricketer yearning for another chance. Karthik was selected for the Bangladesh series, but after a dismal performance in the first test, he was rightly dropped to make way for Dhoni. But Karthik like Rohit has also been in good form, though not exceptional in the Ranji Trophy. But what must be said are the two brilliant tons Karthik scored in the ongoing Duleep Trophy finals [
SCORECARD]. Karthik scored two 150 plus scores (183 and 150 to be exact) and looks in sublime touch. Also if Karthik was in the team, the reserve wicketkeeper wouldn't have been a problem. Saha from Bengal is good with the bat and boasts a near 40 average in first class cricket, but he hardly is international substance. If Dhoni is injured, putting him ahead to debut in a series that means so much is a big worry. Karthik has international exposure, and has opened for India in South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England and has done a good job. Karthik will also be looking for a chance to prove his worth and will be dying for a chance to wear the whites again. I therefore would have backed Dinesh Karthik and so would anyone else. Sadly the selectors don't agree.

DK got decent chances but never lived up to the expectations the best reasons known to him only.
Maybe he was tagged as a reserve wicket keeper, that makes him to underperform.
I agree with sujan, i too saw the batting display of karthik very much impressed.
Chikka might have took note of karthik's batting and i am sure he will get in to the national side once again purely as batsman!!
I watched both his centuries in final against West Zone, and I bet, he played every shot in the book.
His confidence level was just so amazing. and he seemed to be a different player altogether.May be, being appointed as skipper of South Zone has boosted his confidence.
It is the selector's job to gauge such a player.Once he is guaranteed a place in the side, he takes his game to the next level.
It is pity that Rohit Sharma was chosen ahead of Karthik for the SA series.
