The Unspoken Hero

The man who has hardly got chances to prove his credentials in the IPL

Two years ago when Vijay Mallya coughed up a huge amount for the man in picture,it would have taken many by surprise.Though he was relatively unknown in the international scenario, his T20 powers had been doing rounds throughout the cricketing circles. Some amazing knocks and some great cameos along with some spells of googlies had already made him one of the most feared cricketers in the counties. A blazing 144 not out and many 4 wicket hauls seemed to have impressed Mallya.

A man who had become the youngest captain of an iconic county team like the bushrangers at the age of 20 despite the presence of some great cricketers playing for the VICS, is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen in the oz line up. He is constantly criticized for under bowling himself or rather not bowling himself off late but,the fact remains that his bowling can come handy at any point in timeHis googlies, leg spinners and flippers which he mixes constantly along with a few pie-chuckers has troubled many as expected, coz this lad has been groomed under the “wizard of oz” none other than warne himself!!Adding to this impressive “mixed bag “of deliveries, is his raw power which can smash any delivery out of the park. His slip fielding is another prominent aspect in his game, many a times he pulls of blinders in the slip region. The icing in the cake to this cricketing profile is his captaincy.Captaining the bushrangers to 4 Big bash wins is not a joke!!

A man of such a great cricketing with him entered our RCB bandwagon, but unfortunately has not been used to create the damage he is capable off.I agree he was given 4-5 chances in the first edition of the IPL and his performance was not up to the mark. That was his first stint in the subcontinent.Today he has matured and garnered runs all over the world.Ponting’s absence during the England tour made him cement his place. From then on he has never looked back.A couple of good knocks in India and some cameos against west indies,Pakistan and New Zeland has brought him back into national test reckoning. This time as a batsman, unlike the first time he played tests for oz being forced to bowl as the leader of the spin attack in the absence of Bryce McGain. With such backing to his repute now.I feel it’s time RCB exploits his powers. He may prove to be better than Ross Taylor, one never knows.

He is already being talked as the next captain of oz in T20’s may be even tests and ODI’s if Clark fails.I tip him as a future RCB captain. It is sad that the “bear” has decided to delay his migration to India to lead the Vics in the Sheffield shield.I guess benching him the whole of last season has not gone well with him.He is expected to be around for RCB anytime before the first of april.Really hoping he will be played this time around!!

Agreed he is a good bet, but availability is the key. If he could join the team only in April, there are more questions like how will he adapt to Indian conditions?

Cameron White indeed is one of the most under-spoken 20-20 cricketeer. He can be explosive with the bat, canny with the ball and magical in the outfield. Mallya's decision to take him into the RCB team will be vindicated for sure this time around considering the good form White is in!
