The Wall Stands Tall
Rahul Dravid scores a splendid unbeaten century and his 1st at Lords as he went on the become the 2nd highest run getter in Test Cricket.
The Mammoth Chase:-
It was going to be a real test of characters for the Indian batsmen after a daunting 474 runs put up on the board by England. It was going to be one real test for the No.1 Ranked test Team in World. Kevin's Double Ton showed that what this test match is going to be forseen as and how tough the Test Series is going to fare along. England were leaving no room for any compromise and they were indeed giving a tough competition to the Indians. The absence of Zaheer Khan was clearly seen in the bowling Line-Up but Praveen's 5 wicket haul provided some cheer for the Team.
Indians began their chase well seeing off new ball by opener Gambhir and Mukund. They builed up a solid opening partnership of 63 runs as Gambhir fell for just 15 runs but Mukund played on missing out half-century by just 1 run.
The Wall Stood Tall:-
In came the Wall at No.3 and at the other end was the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Everyone had their eyes on Sachin as none even concentrated on Dravid. The Lords turned out to be a special one for the one man who i.e. Rahul Dravid and he got a magnificent Ton his 1st one at Lords. Sachin departed at 34 runs as his dream of scoring a ton in Lords was put to haul by Broad at 34. The other Indian batsmen were falling like pins and none were able to give company to "The Wall" who stood Tall at one end seeing his partners walking back to the pavilion one after the other as even Capain Dhoni fell for 28 runs. Courageous or Mr.Dependable, Outstanding or Mastmind, whatever you talk of this man who has stood firm in the Indian batting line up and rescued the team almost everytime they landed in Trouble, Rahul Dravid remained unbeaten at 103 runs scoring 15 classic boundaries and helped India to avoid follow on.
Zaheer back on duty:-
Another good news came in for Team India as the RCBian Zaheer Khan was looking quite fit and he came into bat giving Dravid even though he could not score, his fittness was going to be the key for India in the bowling department. Even though he did not bowl the 5 overs left for England to bat on we are all hopeful after seeing him come at the crease to bat he will be the key bowler for India when both the teams take on the filed on the 4th Day of the exciting Test Match.
