Would like
to use this forum to solute one of the most loyal servants of Indian cricket. Today
is the 41st birthday of Javagal
Srinath.
For those who have forgotten him, he was one of the most consistent
new ball bowlers India
ever produced. He started his carrier in early 90s and was only second to Kapil
Dev among the highest wicket takers for India before retiring from
international cricket in 2003.
He was one
of the players who always spoke by performance. He was more than a handy
batsman who played couple of match winning knocks in ODIs and few match saving
innings in tests.
Srinath started
his cricket from Gymcana club in mysore
and represented Karnataka for more than 150 matches. He was certainly the
quickest during his early days and earned the name of “Mysore express” among the media.
Looking at
the records he had, he would have been a perfect player for T20 format. Unfortunately,
we can only get to see him as a referee during the IPL matches.
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY JAVAGAL….

Going back down the Memory Lane...I remember an incident involving Srinath and Ponting...Ponting mistimed a pull off a Srinath bouncer and the ball hit the grill of his helmet. Poor Srinath, who walked upto Ponting enquiring if it had hurt the batsmen got some Very Nasty words in return for his good natured behaviour...Says a lot about both the cricketers persona...Srinath~Gentlest/Finest of Cricketers and we all about the other Guy...LoL :-)
For someone who hero-worshipped you when you knocked out the bewildered Pakistani Miandad in 1992 WC, you have been more than a cricketing icon.
Javagal Srinath will always be remembered by genuine cricket lovers in India. Sri was one fast bowler, who could bowl the perfect yorkers and as I see it, after Sri's retirement, it is only Zaheer, who bowls yorkers once in a blue moon or so.
I remember India's tour of SA in 1996-97, when Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad teamed up to terrorize the late Hansie Cronje on his home turf.
Wish you a very happy birthday.
Was my duty to put it here. he lives couple of streets away from my place. have been a big fan ever since i started following cricket.
