What a poor captaincy to begin the campaign?

It is a disappointing start for RCB.

It is a disappointing start for RCB.Being put to bat,in what looked like a good wicket to bat on, RCB were never in the game for even a single over of the match. It was a dominating performance by KKR. It was a excellent captaincy by Sourav Ganguly, who rotated his bowlers very well.He never allowed RCB to enter into the game.

In contrast, I was more than disappointed with Anil Kumble.I thought he actually made some blunders while donning the captain's cap. Here are the few instance where I think Kumble missed out, allowing KKR to capitalise:

Opening Batting combination: When Manish Pandey was included in the team but not sent as a opener, I was simply shocked. We knew Kallis had to stay there till atleast 10-15 overs, so it was obligatory that his other partner be a attacking , aggressive batsman, who is simply not afraid to have a go at the opposition. And Manish Pandey fits the bill perfectly.

Morgan sent ahead of Dravid: With RCB reeling at 20/3 after the dismissals of Goswami, Pandey and Virat, one would have expected Rahul Dravid to come and consolidate the situation. But Morgan was sent ahead of Dravid, who fell to a shot that wasn't really needed.

Opening Bowling Combination: If Dale Steyn was not in the team, one would have expected Kallis to open the bowling along with Praveen Kumar. But having the Number one fast bowler in the team, and not giving him the new ball is little hard to digest.RCB were defending a small total and we definitely needed wickets upfront to win this game.

As I write this post ,KKR are comfortably placed at 101/1 with loss of M. Tiwari, who played brilliantly despite pain, and I see no reason, that they should not reach the target with ease. A disappointing start to RCB's campaign.

ROBIN UTHAPPA IS ONE OF THE BEST OPENERS IN THE WORLD!!! Sachin was no idiot to push MI management go so far to buy him for a whopping $800,000... but plz like the ntional team did RC just dont fiddle around wth his batting positions... Please show some confidence on the India Record holder for the highest score on ODI debut!!!!

I don't blame on kumble,he pushed the victory till last over, swetting SRK at the end,its initial stage of experimenting once we get the combination right, which will be from 2nd match. The same team, goswami, steyn and uthappa OUT,boucher, vinay, akhil IN.Pls send out uthapa and bring akhil,as he is an all rounder.KPL winning team captain.Ross for morgan when he comes...RCB will win IPL3 no doubts. All the Best

u know why Kumble sent Goswami to open. Goswami is a bengali and it was his home ground. Kumble would have expected Goswami to know the thing about the wicket. But that id didnt happen. But i didnt find anything in sending hom to open. but rather i would have liked to see pandey coming in to open in place of kallis.
its like putting too much pressure on Kallis.

Come on guys, dont get into an over-reaction mode. I didnt find much wrong in Kumble's captaincy. Because Morgan failed with that shot, we say that he shouldnt have played that shot. Quite often, Morgan has played that shot with good success in the past (and he may have played against Kartik in England county championship). Also, it was right to keep Dravid back because with Kallis on the other end, the need was to have strikers at the other end and Kumble did it well by sending Pandey, Kohli and Morgan in that order. Please note that in Jennings and Kumble we have perhaps the best coach-captain combination in terms of strategies and effectiveness, let them do their jobs - if we overreact, things can go wrong with the changes also. The only change I can suggest is Steyn whose fast bowling wont work in these conditions (forget that one afternoon at Nagpur of reverse swing with the changed ball), we need to replace him with Steve Smith and go with 3 spin strategy. Then wait for Taylor, KP & White to join the team soon.

Bowlers need a target to defend. The target set by RC wasn't good enough.Another 30 runs wouldve made the difference.Captain aint responsible for rash shots played before settling down.Kallis played a mature innings - first got his eye in and then accelerated. The others need to learn this and practise this.Agreed its T20 but to sight the ball like a football and get your feet moving - you need to get your eye in.
As for goswami - I remmeber in once of the chiefs posts that the coach was having him hit lofted drives - lets have faith in the coach - he knows his stuff much better than us mortals , he having played the game at the highest level.
IPL is spread over 6 weeks, lotsa games to go.If the team needs to experiment , the time is now.
Weve seen in the previous seasons - RC is like the famous racehorse "seabiscuit".Seabiscuit followed the pack closely for the major half of the race - but when looked in the eye - it just overtook all of them and left them miles behind.
May the force be with you RC.

Yes as mighty 14 contest winner from kolkata we are there Knight played well today. Their opening Partnership was great but it would be better for us if we could break the Opening Partnership.

Kolkata Welcome us with Plastic Bag full of water. They targeted us many times.

Hope we can do it in the Next Match. About captaincy Why not Stain to open the Bowling?
