What we had, & now what we have…
The current team is totally different from the earlier 3 edition teams. but the trouble seems is, the change doesnt seem for better...
RCB team for earlier IPL- Kallis, Manish, Dravid, Kohli, Ross, Robin, White/Kevin/Morgan. Kumble, Praveen, Vinay, Steyn
RCB team for this IPL- Dilshan, Mayank, Kohli, AB De, Tiwary, Pujara, Vettori, Nannes/Nuwan/Langavelt, Zaheer, Mithun/Aravind
So lets try to cancel out the same utility players to see what more or less we have now.
We retained Kohli. Zaheer-Praveen can be set off. we got a good buy there. For Ross/KP, we got AB de that also a good buy. lost a better proven Manish and got a inexperienced Mayank. A Sachin-like presence of class, consistency and solidity of Kallis who also helped as bowler is lost to moderate IPL record Dilshan. Lost the high in form bowling X-factor Steyn (could be like Malinga for MI) lesser impactful Nannes/Langavelt. Tiwary is not too bad compared to Robin, but costed lot more than to be retained a very succesful Uthappa. Lot better support bowling of Kumble, Kallis, Vinay to the opening bowlers than Dilshan, kohli, Mithun, Asad, Aravind.
I thought it may not be bad idea from Mallya to not retain players as it cuts the auction purse. But its well worth it, if we have the success formula stable, as it is likely that buyng back quality players would be more costly this time due to more competition. I personaly would have retained Kallis, Kohli, Robin and Steyn. out of the 4.5 mn left. would have targeted Ashwin, Zaheer, AB de, Vettori n few more good backups.
Its past now. Nothing could be changed. This team has a huge loss of support bowlers, thus putting lot of pressure on the batsmen to get the runs. If any of Zaheer or Vettori have a below top class performance. we got the bowling to conceed more than 160 runs plenty of times. Its going to take many folds improvment. I guess reaching Semis would be a achievment
PS- I do not intent to mean RCB cannot bounce back from this. RCB has come out from such difficult period before. But as per current situations, things are very tough
